God lives and works today. Yes, and He shows His love and power to us as a true Father. Today's meditation by Besselia Schlink takes a look at what it means to be able to know God as our Father.
A Father who is greater than all. Jesus says in John 10, verse 29, My Father is greater than all. What a promise! His love is greater than all human love, and He is more willing to help than any other.
The help which He offers us is greater than our difficulty. His forgiveness is greater than our burden of sin. Yes, He is greater than the anguish of all suffering which may descend upon us.
Because He loves us as a Father, He takes care that times of refreshment always follow difficult times. Therefore, in times of suffering, let us look forward to the times of happiness which will most definitely follow. Then we will overcome the oppressing power of sadness.
Father of comfort, Father of calm. Your comfort is gentle and soothing and mild. You heal all the pain of each suffering child.
O praise you, my Father, praise you, my Lord. Father of comfort, Father of comfort, Father of comfort. Yes, God is a true Father.
A good, earthly Father pays attention to every small thing which His child does. How much more does the Father in Heaven do just that? The smallest things that we do in secret, a small sacrifice, an act of love. God notices it and keeps it in His heart.
And one day it will happen as it is written in Matthew 6, verse 4. He will reward you openly on the day of the Last Judgment, when He, as the Great Rewarder, will give to each as He deserves. Should not God's love, which rewards the smallest deed and has put every tear in His bottle, overwhelm us? Consider this love in the darkest hours. Then your trust will know no bounds, just as His love knows no bounds or limits.
In every difficulty say, Father, You're greater than all, and you will experience this truth. Come with my praises for love which so amazes the hearts of His children once full of their sin. A heart full of kindness, a heart of love and goodness, the heart of the Godhead, our Father is He.
