Little Conclusions

God lives and works today and in view of our present world situation he is the only one who can help us. But how can we experience his help? The answer is in today's meditation by Basil E. Schlink about little conclusions. Leading scientists constantly confirm the fact that we're living in a time like never before.

They tell us point-blank at the end of history the destruction of this earth is possible in our generation. The time of great affliction and man's fear and panic which the Bible calls the last days has already begun. We're living in these times.

From our personal experience we know that we like to avoid unpleasant things. We repress them and we push them into our subconscious instead of realistically confronting them. And especially we don't want to draw any conclusions that would cost us something.

Yet this is the only thing that will help us. We must draw the little conclusions such as since we're living in a time like never before we must take God's commandments more seriously than ever before even in the smallest details of our everyday life. Some time ago a group of farmers wives came to visit our little land of Canaan.

We had a chance to talk with one of the women in the group. She was the only one whose face was really radiant with joy. We found out that she'd been at an evangelization meeting where the preacher had said that we're living in a time like never before and that we have to take stock of our lives and make some changes.

What did this woman do when she returned home? While the other neighbors stood around for a long time discussing the pros and cons of the sermon this woman went and threw away her trick milk measuring cup which always gave a little less milk to the customers which came to her. It was only a small turn of the hand but it was the important little conclusion that God had been waiting for. Since then the woman's facial expression has been such a contrast to the oppressed looks of her neighbors.

Do you know what the little conclusions in your life look like? Usually we know it all too well but we don't want to do it. We put it off. Perhaps later at a special time we want to make God a big offer a big dedication but this is not what it's all about.

When the Bible continually admonishes and exhorts us make the most of the time it means the little conclusions which we have to draw daily and which will be put together like little tiles to form a large mosaic. Not one can be missing not a single little conclusion so make the most of the time. When Jesus says this he's not being a hard master no he's offering us grace.

Today it's still possible for us to turn away from our sinful ways. Jesus is giving us a time of grace to draw the little and the big conclusions. Turn to him today you won't regret it and when the time of destruction comes you'll have God on your side and be founded on the rock that can withstand every storm.
