Not Half-way, but His Way

God lives and works today. His life on earth is an example for us of how we can all be overcomers, victorious over the sin in our lives, over sorrow and all the powers of darkness. To be able to overcome these things would really mean happiness, on earth and for all eternity.

But how can we be overcomers? What was the secret of Jesus' victorious way? The answer is in today's meditation by Basilea Schlink. A woman told her counselor that she had had a fight with her husband and that in the process he had done her a terrible injustice. She knew that Jesus is the Lamb of God and that He has redeemed us to follow Him on His way of patient, long-suffering love, the way of the Lamb, and she realized that she had to forgive her husband.

However, her reactions to the situation were half lamb, half lion. She wrote to her husband that she wanted to forgive him, and yet, at the same time, she mentioned all the complaints and accusations she had against him. That there was no peace in the woman's heart after writing such a letter is understandable.

There's no room for us to follow halfway, because Jesus can't manifest only half of His victorious power. We must follow Him completely, otherwise we will never become free from our egos, and therefore our lives will neither have a blessing nor be a blessing to others. That is why it's so important that we first allow God to perform surgery on our characters.

This happens when we die to self, as we go the way of the Lamb with Jesus. It means actually keeping silent when injustices are done to us. This may seem difficult.

However, if we tried to do this, just think how many tensions and disputes would be saved, all of which only make us unhappy. And the blessings that would stream forth from us to our families and co-workers would be infinite, truly capable of destroying the clouds of spiritual darkness. Oh, may we perceive Jesus' call today.

Come, follow me, on my way, the way of the Lamb. On this way you will find peace for your soul, for on this way your ego, which only destroys your life, will be crucified with me. May we hear Jesus' call every morning, before we begin the day, and give ourselves to him like a lamb upon the altar.

May we commit to God whatever the day might bring in the way of difficult people and frustrations, and consciously tell him, here are my wishes and rights, I give you my all. For this Jesus has redeemed us, so that we may become overcomers, who one day will bear the stamp of his nobility, overcomers with whom he will share his eternal glory. Therefore, don't choose halfway, choose his way, the way of the Lamb.
