Nothing is by Accident

God lives and works today. He is a loving Father who shares all our sorrows and grief. There is nothing that happens to us that He does not care about.

And even when we are in the midst of suffering, He is near, ready to help and comfort us. Today's program by Basilea Schlink called Nothing is by Accident shares about how we can experience the comfort of God. We'll never forget a table conversation we had with friends when they told us about the most meaningful Yom Kippur they ever had.

This is the Jewish Day of Atonement, which you can read about in Leviticus chapter 23. During the last world war, they were in a concentration camp. The entire hopelessness and comfortlessness surged over them as once more Yom Kippur came.

On that day, they had received the order to clean the floor of the officers' barracks. And then they experienced something wonderful, so indescribable it was as if it came from another world. They heard singing that was very familiar to them and prayers in Hebrew.

What had happened? An SS officer had turned on the radio to hear some light music. Then he was called away for some reason or another. And now, as they scrubbed the floor, the Jewish prisoners of a concentration camp listened to a London broadcast of a Jewish Yom Kippur service.

This hour was the greatest experience of God in their entire life. Could it only have been by chance? No, they sensed God is a Father. He cares for His children.

Out of pure love, He never lets them out of sight and comforts them like a mother would. Father of comfort, Father of comfort, Father of comfort. Your comfort is gentle and soothing and mild.

You heal all the pain of each suffering child. Oh, praise You, my Father, praise You, my Lord. Father of comfort, Father of comfort, Father of comfort.

And that is the heart of the Father, incomprehensible, infathomable, in His strong yet so tender love for His children. God, the Father, calls to His child who has troubles, Fear not, I will help you. Or in other Bible passages, God speaks to His own, calling them, My chosen ones, My beloved, My children.

Whoever lets himself be drawn into the love of God will be healed from all the troubles in his soul. So open your Bibles today and let these words speak to you anew of the Father's love. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. And no one shall snatch them out of the Father's hand. John chapter 10, verses 27 to 29.

Yes, eat these words as if they were food, and you will really taste the kindness of the Lord. Also in great suffering and deep sorrow, God is a Father, He's your Father, who comforts you as no one else can.
