The Power of the Blood of Jesus

God lives and works today, but how few of our lives actually testify to his power and love. Do we show others that Jesus is victor in our lives by actually being victorious over our problems and bondages? Or are we just as selfish, jealous, or impatient now as we were last year and the year before that? Do you wish that something could really be different in your life? The Bible promises that it can be, through the power of the blood of Jesus. But what does this mean in practical, everyday terms? Listen to today's program by Basilea Schlink.

Perhaps we know about the power of the blood of Jesus, and yet it has never actually been able to help us be victorious over our troubles and suffering, or in our battle against sin. We ask ourselves, where can we start? What must we do to really be victorious through the blood of Jesus? Consider this analogy. I may have a huge bank account, but if I never use any of the money, this bank account won't do me much good.

The same is true for Jesus' victory on Calvary. The power of the blood of Jesus won't help me one bit if I don't lay claim to it. But what does it mean to claim the blood of Jesus? It is of utmost importance that we understand this secret, for then we will be able to gain the victory and overcome.

Then our lives will be filled with incomparable joy and happiness. I experienced this with a person who came to me for spiritual counseling. He had lived for several years in a particular bondage, and at first had no idea how terribly bound he was.

It was a personality flaw, a character sin which he had tolerated, and which finally prevented Jesus from glorifying himself and being Lord in his life. When this person realized the truth and began to fight against this bondage, only then did he realize how tightly bound he was. The powers of darkness were determined not to give up their prey.

They oppressed him even harder and held him all the more tightly, for Satan doesn't want anyone to be victorious and to win the glory. However, this man was persistent in his fight. Day by day and hour by hour, whenever the temptations came over him, he called upon the blood of Jesus in praise and worship, and the spirits from hell were terrified.

The battle lasted a couple of years. However, the man did not give up. No, he held fast, and that's the important thing.

And he really did become free. Yes, when we battle in this way, we're anchoring ourselves on a solid rock and on a finished victory. No matter how long the battle may last, the victory remains certain.

Jesus' redemption and the power of his blood will make us completely free. We need only praise and thank God in faith that this freedom has been fully paid for, for it is praise and thanksgiving that puts us on the victory side. Let's begin now by singing together.
