The Way, the Truth and the Life

God lives and works today. The Bible tells us in John 14, 6 that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and it also challenges us to follow Him on His way. But perhaps you're wondering, what is the right way? Some people say we have to deny life, and others say we can do anything we want and still be Christians.

Is there a right way that will lead us to real happiness? Listen to the following program called The Way, the Truth, and the Life. For a long time I couldn't find the key, the solution, to my questions. What is true discipleship? What does Jesus want? On the one hand, He calls us to an uncompromising discipleship.

He calls us to forsake everything, to lose our lives for His sake. He calls us to leave father and mother. But on the other hand, we're supposed to honor our father and mother.

If we forsake all things to tread the path of uncompromising discipleship, aren't we becoming ascetic and seclusive, denying civilization and everything that God has created? How many of us have tried to find the answer to such questions? I would like to share with you an answer that I found in a book, My All for Him, written by Mother Basilea Schlink. She writes as an answer to these questions. Many voices reached my ears, and many sought to convince me that their way was right.

Still I wondered, what did God want? Which was His way? I wanted to tread His path no matter what it cost. The Lord answered my plea and showed me the way. First, however, He had to show me that I was a poor sinner.

I had to become so desperate that I could cry over my sins. This experience drove me into the arms of Jesus, for Jesus and the repentant sinner belong together. Then He began to reveal Himself as love.

He Himself who was the answer. My intellectual questions began to fade into the background. Only one thing was important.

I was drawn to love Him who had forgiven my sins, redeemed me, and loved me so ardently. He became my closest friend. For me, He was the joy of all joys.

Yes, all of my questions had been answered, and all of my problems solved. Now I was truly free. Now I belonged utterly to the One who is the heart of the universe and who contains everything in Himself.

In the fellowship of love with Him, I now had part in everything that belongs to this earth and to the whole universe. My love had become all-comprehending, but my love had also remained close to God, bound to the center of creation. Just as my life had been unhappy and torn with inner conflicts before I found the answer, so everything was much more happy and more natural afterwards.

Yes, to love Jesus and seek Him above all will bring us onto the right path of true discipleship, will make us completely happy. Who makes us happy? Jesus, bless you. Therefore my heart rejoices in you.
