To Fight Against Sin

Basilea Schlink · 4:35

To become overcomers, we must fight against sin through a battle prayer, repentance, and faith in Jesus.
In this sermon, Basilis Shlink emphasizes the importance of recognizing and repenting for our sins. He encourages listeners to pray for the Spirit of Repentance and to accept the conviction of their sins through the guidance of others. Shlink emphasizes that true repentance goes beyond acknowledging one's sins, but also understanding the pain and suffering they have caused to Jesus, as well as to our families and neighbors. He urges believers to fight against their sinful nature, even to the point of shedding blood, in order to shine forth the love of Jesus and become overcomers.

God lives and works today. He is working to prepare a place for us in his house for all eternity. But that means we have to work now to become overcomers, to fight against sin.

Today's meditation by Basilia Schlink will tell us how. Sin is a hellish poison. It comes from Satan and brings people for eternity into the kingdom of hell.

Therefore, a prayer to be used against our sins can be nothing else but a real battle prayer. Here, we're stepping into a battle with the greatest enemy there is, Satan himself. He's the one who stirs up sin and who doesn't want the bonds with which he fastens us to himself to be broken.

For this reason, his main tactic is to make us blind, not letting us recognize our sin. So the greatest hindrance in the battle against my sins is my own self-righteousness. So first of all, my prayer can only be for the spirit of truth, that the Holy Spirit will enlighten me and show me the atrocity of my sin.

Sin which I don't want to be true or which I try to pass off is not important. If we pray continually, Lord, bring my unrecognized sins into your light. If we cry out for the spirit of repentance, and above all, if we accept that which God says to us through other people, we will experience astounding things.

Suddenly, it will be as if a curtain has been taken away, and we will recognize the depths of our own ego, the cancerous sore of our sickness of sin. It isn't enough to be able to say, yes, of course I'm a sinner, and there and there I've sinned, there I was guilty. No, we must see the pain and suffering which they've caused our Lord Jesus and our families and neighbors.

This comes only through repentance. We can claim this repentance in faith. We can stand in faith on the fact that Jesus has redeemed us from our hard, unrepentant hearts.

This repentance will awaken in our hearts a hatred against our sins, which will give us the determination to fight against them to the point of shedding blood, as we read in the letter to the Hebrews. It pays to overcome our sinful natures, no matter what the price, so that we can shine forth the love of our Lord Jesus. Yes, we must become overcomers, because only those who overcome will inherit the crown of glory.

Jesus will make us overcomers. He will fight the battle against our sins in us. But we have to be willing to humble ourselves under our sins, to say yes to them, and then to fight the battle of faith against them.

Let me remain God's child, though great a sin I feel, burning in me like fire. Therefore, God said, Be praised, who on the cross was raised, to save me from my sin. I'll give my life to Thee, death is but gain to me, when I salvation see.
