Christ died for our sins

1 Corinthians chapter 15 and reading at verse 1. Moreover brethren I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you which also you have received and wherein you stand by which also you're saved if you keep in memory what I preached unto you unless you have believed in vain for I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures and that he was seen of Cephas and of the twelve after that he was seen of above 500 brethren at once of whom the greater part remain under this present but some are fallen asleep and then we'll read verse 19 or verse 16 for if the dead rise not then is not Christ raised and if Christ be not raised your faith is vain year yet in your sins then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished if in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable but now is Christ risen from the dead and become the firstfruits of them that slept now the Lord will bless his word I'm sure the reading of his word and I'm not going to be long tonight I think mr. Hall after hearing these testimonies tonight what an encouragement no doubt it has been those were years I've heard a lot about 1974 since we've come to Iowa here in the last little while when God worked but I couldn't help but think tonight one of the reasons why these men that we heard tell how they got saved tonight one of the reasons really why they are saved is because they recognize that they were sinners and maybe some in our meeting tonight you've been listening to the gospel and hearing the gospel and the reason you're not saved tonight is because you don't realize before God your SI and your sin and the Bible says that there's really no difference these men that you've heard tonight tell how God saved them and those that preach the gospel and many of that's in our meeting tonight the Bible says there's absolutely no difference all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and so the need tonight in our gospel meeting the need of some of these boys and girls tonight some of these men and women that are in our gathering and it's really good to see you here tonight your greatest need tonight is the need of God's salvation and so I've read tonight I just want to think of that expression Christ died for our sins if you was to get a hold of that tonight the truth of that the reality of that you could have the same not the same story but you could enjoy the same person you could come to the same person that these men that we've heard tonight came to in their life's experience they came to know Jesus Christ the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior almost makes you feel like going over your testimony again when you hear these hear these testimonies it's a wonderful thing my friend to be saved and it's a wonderful thing to know it sure of it so I want I just want to think about this little expression tonight just for a few moments Christ died for our sins first of all I'm thinking it's crucifixion reminds us of the crucifixion Christ died so if we're going to draw your attention tonight to anything right at the beginning we would draw your attention to a man who died upon a cross 2000 years ago into this world there came a man by the name of the Lord Jesus Christ they said the announcement was I shall call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sins and so the one that came into this world born of a virgin the Virgin Mary and he was wrapped in swaddling clothes you know the story laid in a manger and the life that he lived was a perfect sinless spotless holy life the Lord Jesus Christ from heaven God's Son the eternal Son of the eternal God and he came my friend into this world for the purpose that he might journey to Calvary and to pay a price that only he could pay and to do a work that only he could do and to make a provision that only he could make to pay the sin debt that you and I owe and we could never pay for it so his crucifixion he died upon the cross it was also substitution Christ died for our sins it was not for his own sins for he was perfect he was sinless the only one that ever walked on planet earth that was sin less and that was God's Son from heaven that's why we quote so often in the gospel John 3 verse 16 that well-known text God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life and so the substitution on the cross who his own self bear our sins in his own body on the tree you and I deserve my friend the judgment of God because of our sin but when Christ died upon the cross he bore the weight of sin that the sin debt that you and I owed he paid a price that satisfied the God of heaven on the account of man's sin that's why the door tonight is wide open that's why the door to heaven tonight my friend if you look at this chart that we have in past nights this door on this chart if you see that red book that red dot that door tonight is open Christ opened that door when he died upon the cross we've been asking in past nights on this chart here on this two roads to destinies we are all on this chart really pictured somewhere and so if we were to ask you tonight which one of these roads are young we ask that almost every night I suppose to the boys and girls if you had to come up and take this little laser pointer here tonight man woman boy or girl and you had to put an X on this chart where you're at on the chart where would you put your ex if you had to put your ex on this chart if you had to write your name on this chart would it be this road or would it be this road that's getting located where your hat well that door was opened when Christ died upon the cross he opened that door wide open that everyone and anyone might enter in and not only that but as revelation Christ died for our sins and when a person realizes when they take their place as sinner before a holy God and recognize their need of God's salvation and reach out that empty hand of faith to accept what God has provided in the person of his son that work that he did upon the cross that's the truth of Christ died for our sins and that takes us all in tonight in this large company in this building I want to think of that message very simply first of all is preached it's a message that's preached Paul says the writer here says this then is a message that I delivered unto you moreover brethren I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you so it's a message that is preached and if we were to think of other places in the Bible there's a man in the Bible by the name of Noah and it says of Noah that he was a preacher of righteousness Peter tells us that he was a preacher of righteousness so in his preaching I when I think of Noah we all know the story the boys and girls would know the story of Noah as he's building this ark I can almost see him as this this ark is being built and he's standing on that deck maybe with that company of people that's listening and as he had bellows out the the message from God for people judgment is coming it was days of crisis in the days of Noah crisis times it was tremendous days the judgment of God is coming the reason that's coming is because of man's sin man's wickedness before God against God and as God looked down from heaven the Bible says he saw the wickedness of man that it was great in the earth and it grieved him at his heart and he's going to send judgment we're living in crisis days today you and I are in crisis days you know what has to happen you know what happened in Noah's day it was a day when they had to make choices everyone that Noah preached to everyone that was under the sound of Noah's voice or maybe not not even under it it was a day when a choice choices had to be made we are living in crisis days we are on the right on the verge of the coming of Christ into this world we would remind boys and girls and men and women these days that we're living we are right on the verge when the show from heaven is going to be sounded and the Lord is going to return and everyone that is saved it's going to be caught away in a moment if he came all this meeting is on it became all this meetings on you know what it would do you want the Lord's coming will do it would test the preacher that's preaching when that shout is given the reality of my salvation would be tested everyone in our company tonight every seat every seat that sat on tonight would be tested the reality of our salvation so if we asked you tonight are you saved if we shook your hand going out of the meeting as we've been listening to these boys if we shook your hand going out of the meeting tonight and said boys are you saved girls are you saved man tonight are you saved woman in our meeting are you saved we're living in days crises days actually every day we live as a days of crisis because we never know when when it's our last day we never know my friend when we're going to take our last breath as far as time is concerned God gives it to us one at a time we hardly even stop to think that this breath that we're breathing we just breathe it so naturally and we don't even realize that it could end at any moment God could close his hand on our breath at any time that little pump that keeps going in there why that could stop pumping it at any moment it's a wonder it goes as long as it does I'm amazed when you read about that the amount of blood that that that that little heart pumps and all the vessels that it has to travel through our body wonderfully made and God gives us that breath one after another and you never even stop to thank him for it did you thank God today for the breath you're breathing for the health that you're that you have a lot of people don't have good health you ever stop and think got pretty ungrateful pretty it were an unthankful people and we're living in a day when choices have to be made of what I'm going to do with the one that holds my breath in his hand and maybe there's one in our gathering tonight and maybe you're gonna have to make a choice tonight they did a Noah's Day they made a choice there was eight that made a choice to go in the ark there was multitudes that made a choice not what would your choice have been as you look back and Noah's Day what would your choice have been I was thinking of man by the name of Jonah you know he had God said I want you to preach got there's a message I want you to preach wasn't really no love in it Jonah didn't preach love we would preach love tonight because God's love was manifested to the world and that he gave his son God commendeth his love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us and so God's love from heaven my friend is expressed in the giving of his son in his death on the cross in the life that he gave his death his burial his resurrection he lives tonight and that love with arms outstretched to fellow travelers to eternity he says come unto me but Jonah's message wasn't a message of love Jonah's message was 40 days and none of us shall be overthrown 40 days so their lifespan came down to 40 days you may not have 40 days that's the importance of God's salvation you may not have 40 days you may not even have 40 minutes that's the reality of it and you know what I was thinking Jonah preached but God had more interest in Nineveh than even the preacher did that tells me the heart of God even in our meeting tonight you know there's I don't know if your heart was moved or not but my heart was moved tonight as I listened to these brethren tell how God saved them my little the strings in there whatever however that however we feel that they're moved when we listen to men and women as well in this meeting tonight that know their sins forgiven and God worked in their lives God spoke to their hearts as God has spoken to the hearts and lives of some in our meeting tonight I'm sure tonight in this meeting there's someone sitting in this meeting tonight and you have felt the tug of the working of God in your heart you've had the thoughts of your need of getting right with God of getting the matter settled of knowing for sure without a doubt whatsoever that that's all as well for eternity heaven or hell that's in the balance maybe you've even thought what will I do with with Christ what am I going to do about this matter you know the first gospel meeting I sat in and in 1969 was my year the first gospel meeting I came to after the meetings were on for a while and my mom and dad I knew my dad there anyway was going to ask me to a gospel meeting before very long because I knew the meetings were on and anyway the moment the day came I had it all worked out I don't know what you work out or figure out I had it all figured out if they when my dad asked me to the meeting I'll tell them I'll go one night a week one night a week and that'll make him happy and that'll get me clear I can manage one night a week and so I remember when on a Wednesday night first meeting of that series that I attended and you know before I left that meeting in my thoughts there was this thought that came into my mind David you're going to do something in these meetings with your soul salvation I was impressed with that to the extent that it didn't matter on the weekends the nights or whatever I became bothered the thoughts were going through my mind I was going to have to do something about my soul salvation because eternity is in view well I'm glad tonight that I can tell you the same as the city of Nineveh found out that God loved them really God loved them you know that God loves you tonight you know how much God loves you well my text says Christ died for our sins why do you think he did that why do you think Christ died for our sins for our sins why do you think he did that well I'll tell you why my friend because because he loves you tonight because his love was great tremendous his love was so was so great that he was willing to die for our sins and I'm thankful for that moment in my little life's experience when I found out that the one who died on the cross didn't come to condemn David to hell but he came that I might be saved John 3 verse 17 and I drank in that truth into my soul God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world but that the world through him might be saved and I rested I surrendered like we were singing in the beginning of the mean that's what you need to do to summon our company tonight my friend and you need to surrender to him that's what he wants you to do so it was a preach message not only that but it's a plain message the message of the gospel is a plain message not complicated sometimes we complicated I guess but you know it's really a plain message it's a plain message about our sin that's our problem our problem is that word SIN the tremendous power of sin and you need to realize tonight you could you would be saved long ago summon our company you'd be saved years ago if it wasn't for the power of sin that wraps its cords around a person and you know the further down this road see this road the further down that road you go my friend the harder doesn't get easier the further that you move away from that door the harder it is to get back to that door that's why we tell the boys and girls the time to get saved is when you're young the time to be saved is when you're in your youth remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth as you get older doesn't get easier but I'm thankful tonight that the Bible reminds us that their salvation for you if you're older tonight well thank God you're still here and there's a their salvation available tonight because our verse says Christ died for our sins so the sin question then of course death heaven hell the Lord's coming the plainness of the message and it's plain tonight my friend that you need God's great salvation it's personal the message of the gospel is personal and I think we've been reminded that tonight how personal it is when these boys found out personally it was for them that that Christ died it was on their account it was personal not only personal but it's powerful it's a powerful message what do you think brought these boys and many in that in this company tonight as I look over this audience tonight I'm reminded that the majority here tonight you know the majority at a moment a day a time in their life when they came to know Christ as personal Savior it's a wonderful wonderful thing but it's through the power the mighty power the gospel it says here I'm not ashamed the writer says I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Christ it is the power of God unto salvation that's why the drug addicts can get saved that's why a murderer can get saved that's why uh whatever sin you want to think about the worst sin you could think about whoever committed that worse in my friend salvation is available I suppose even Judas if he'd have repented rightly of his sin and of his what he did he probably could have could have gotten saved even Judas and yet he lost what walked with Christ lived with the Lord Jesus and the Bible says he died and went to his own place what a sad end to a to a person with such an opportunity you know there's some in our meeting tonight and this is an opportunity that God has brought right to your door tonight there's some in our meeting tonight and the opportunity is within your grasp the opportunity the Lord is passing by even in this gospel meeting tonight God is passing by and with his passing he brings an opportunity that you could embrace we could tell stories of different ones one man that I'm gonna relate again it goes back to mr. Hall and this man worked for my dad for for a number of years in his life he was a horseman team of horses hauling logs to the milt that my dad was sawing in and I can remember a cruel he was as cruel to them animals when they didn't do what he wanted but then later years after his wife passed away that was a Christian really and he took the drinking and so years of his life all he did he worked long enough to get enough money to drink and I seen him different times passed out in the corner on the floor anyway he's in the house to make the story short bill would be about I'd be sure it's late 60s maybe early 70s and he's in one of the house of my brother's wife's parents and he's laying in the corner and he said to he said to the man said you know I think I'll just walk out on the highway there and step out in front of a truck and end it all and so the man who was a bitter against the gospel bitter against the gospel he said to him well before you do that bill he said Bob Hunt will be going along here shortly to a meeting in Adam and Tatamagush mr. Hall mr. Bingham we're having meetings think was mr. Bingham and of all places above the liquor store in Tatamagush and he said before you before you do that go out and hail Bob Hunt down he said and go with them to the meeting to this meeting and so bill did he's standing on the road and when dad comes along stops the car and picks him up and he goes to the gospel meeting and of course about half look half loaded we call it then he went back the next night and he went back the next night and I'm not sure how many nights after that but in the meetings mr. Hall and mr. Bingham had bill Forrest trust that Christ as his Savior and I've thought off after you know mind you after that he met a lady in the assembly and got married after years come in the assembly and you couldn't get in the house after that and the first thing you do is get the Bible out and want you to read the Bible and I thought over and over again the power of the gospel the power and the that same power is available tonight you know what that you know what that power will do it will bring peace it gives peace it's a peacemaking message you can enjoy peace with God I don't know if you enjoy peace when you think about eternity do you enjoy peace when you think about leaving life for the neck for the next world you enjoy peace when you think about eternity forever my friend forever somewhere forever with heaven or hell before the individual forever and the power of my text tonight if you were to drink in or take for yourself this text Christ died for our sins he was buried and he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures God grant that as our meeting continues that you might rest where God has rested that you might accept what God has accepted when Christ said it is finished God was pleased with the work that he did God grant that you might be pleased tonight and a and drink in the truth Christ died for who could you finish that Christ died for who sins trust you make it personal tonight
