I will preface this message by saying, friends, I am a baby boomer and I grew up watching TV. I spent a good portion of my life glued to a TV set and called it relaxation. When I should have been in prayer, I was watching the golf channel.

When I should have been out witnessing the folks, I was watching the cooking channel or the history channel or some other time stealer. Satan is a thief who loves to steal our time away from our God and our duties to God. One day, God convicted me of my TV watching and I got rid of my TV.

I haven't had TV programming in my house now for over six years and I don't miss it. The time I used to give the television, I now give the prayer and Bible study. Most Christians think I'm peculiar and an oddball because I don't have TV.

Well, it was a Mormon who invented television. Philo Farnsworth was his name. And I believe that one invention has ruined mankind just about more than any other man's inventions.

When Americans bought their TVs, they brought the vice of theater into their living rooms, embraced a nest of vipers, swallowed the bitter pill of immorality, destroyed the sanctity of the family altar, and let loose demons of every sort and shape into domestic lives and founded the most hurtful lusts of our hearts. TV was the Trojan horse and vehicle which Satan has used to desensitize America to sin. What was once taboo to speak in public is now acted out in our living rooms on our TVs.

The authority in the home began to unravel from Hollywood. It started with what seemed harmless would comedy shows like the Lucille Ball show, but that made wives rebellious of their husband's authority. And then Disney came along and made parents ridiculous to their children by portraying them as morons and birthed a young generation that has no respect for parents or their authority.

Then television commercials became more brazen and lewd. And then Hollywood programming, which is anti-Christianity, first polluted our homes with nudity, sex, and perversion, and then destroyed the American family through the lust of adultery and covetousness. Every time you turn on the TV, friend, you're letting loose a nest of devils into your home.

What at first appeared innocent, like the Andy Griffith show, soon deteriorated and degenerated into sex in the city. Television programming is designed to stimulate the lusts. The Trojan horse of TV will stand at the judgment as one of the great purveyors of evil to be let loose upon mankind.

It kept us from our Bibles and stolen our time away from prayer. When we should have been in God's word and on our knees in the intercession for lost souls, we'd rather sit before our television screens until our eyes grow as big as saucers and our brains the size of a pea. In the early 1960s, the Methodist church still had authority in the land, and they kept the TV commercial off the air because it had an outhouse in it.

And the Methodist church felt that was distasteful. But now we have turned our homes into outhouses and polluted our children's minds with filth and perversion. We won't ever have revival because we won't turn off our TVs long enough to return to God and break up the fallow ground of our sin-calloused hearts.

I listened to a Baptist seminary-trained pastor tell his congregation that his favorite TV show was Watching the Kardashians. I had lunch with a Baptist deacon who said he loved watching The Howard Stern Show. We have become so desensitized to sin that we sin without any sensitivity to God.

The reason society is in such moral decay is because the church is in such shambles like Ephraim. Pastors won't give up their TVs because they are tied to their sports and entertainments. Ephraim is tied to his idols.

Leave them alone. I wonder if we would have to give an account to Jesus for all the time we wasted on TV. Turn off that wretched thing called TV, friends, and turn open your Bibles and pray.

Let us pray.
