Do you believe friends that the guide of the Bible still works miracles today? Some of you nod your head. Yes Others have the blank look of a skeptic I'm gonna read you a scripture passage where God worked a wonder and then I'll tell you about one that just happened Turning your Bibles to the Old Testament to the book of first Kings We will be in chapter 17 and in verses 1 through 16 I don't normally read a passage all the way through Without pausing here and there to make commentary upon the exposition But today friends bear with me as I read the entire text about an amazing incident in the ministry of the prophet Elijah After famine and drought had come upon the land Here now is the Word of God and made the Spirit of the Lord be pleased to attend the reading of his Holy Word and As the Word of the Lord came unto him saying Arise Get thee to Zarephath which belongeth to Zidon and dwell there Behold I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee I'm sorry friends I must break in to say that if God can command ravens to feed his poor preacher He can surely command a widow woman to do the same Back to our text about the thirsty prophet without any more interruptions So he arose and went to Zarephath and when he came to the gate of the city Behold the widow woman was there gatherings of sticks and he called to her and said Fetch me. I pray thee a little water in a vessel that I may drink and As she was going to fetch it.

He called to her and said Bring me a pray thee a morsel of bread in thine hand And she said as The Lord thy God liveth. I have not a cake but a handful of meal in a barrel and a little oil in a cruise and Behold, I am gathering two sticks that I may go in and dress it for me and my son That we may eat it and die I'm sorry friends. Let me Pause one more time to interject that here was a widow woman who had come to her place of Desperation all hope was gone all resources exhausted But she knew there was a God that liveth She believed her faith is about to be tried by God's prophet And Elijah said unto her I fear not Go and do as thou hast said but make me thereof a little cake first and bring it unto me and After make for thee and for thy son For thus sayeth the Lord God of Israel The barrel of meal shall not waste neither shall the crews of all fail Until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth And she went did according to the saying of Elijah and she and he and her house Did eat many days and the barrel of meal? Wasted not neither did the crews of all fail According to the word of the Lord.

I will stop there Well Anyone familiar with me lately knows what I've been going through and the trials I have been under I Have been so oppressed to the place of prayer in desperation Today this morning. I had to be at a place that was 45 minutes away and I had no gas My gas light was on and my tank was empty and being a poor preacher I was sore pressed because I didn't know how I was going to get the gas money in this case five dollars Which would buy me enough gas to barely make it there and back so long as I didn't get stuck in a traffic jam And there's always a traffic jam between these two cities in Florida If you've ever driven in Florida friends, you know how crazy the drivers are and how crazy the traffic is Now the driving distance to the town I had to be at was about 24 miles without traffic being thick So I was looking at needing at least Enough gas to get me 50 or 60 miles a total round trip I borrowed five dollars and I put gas in my car and My gas gauge informed me. I now had enough gas to travel 62 miles 62 miles and no more Like I said, I was sore pressed and it was important for me to make this trip I had an important meeting I had a keep I was under heavy financial duress I couldn't afford to get stranded by running out of gas I prayed a desperate prayer for the Lord's help and I said out loud I believe that with God all things are possible and all things are possible to him that believes Now that's what I said, and I meant it 62 miles is what my gas gauge read.

I began driving in thick heavy traffic and it took me a while to get there and I drove for about 45 minutes until I reached my destination And I glanced down at my gas gauge and it was still 62 miles It hadn't moved an inch Tears began to stream down my face and wonder as I realized that God was still The God who didn't let his people's shoes wear out in the desert And he didn't let the cruise of oil fail or the barrel of meat waste and I drove that distance without Using any gas The cruise of all did not fail Now some of you will say no that did not happen Some of you will say it was a technical error Some of you may think that I'm plumb out of my mind, but listen friends I saw it with my own eyes and I'll go to my grave believing it because I know what I saw and what I Experienced and the gas gauge on the way back proved it because oh when I returned to the city of my departure after driving a distance of 50 to 60 miles I still had 30 miles left in my tank and I proved it by Running errands all the rest of the night all over town from one end to the other on that extra 30 miles And when I finally parked my car, I still had 18 miles to spare God is still a God who can do the impossible Do you believe he can? Do you believe in that kind of God? I'm talking about the God of Elijah That widow woman in our story was in the place of desperation And the living God of the Bible met her in her desperation and tried her faith and performed the impossible When your situation is desperate and even beyond hope and way past human reasoning It will serve you well friend to stand by faith on God's promises and lean on him for strength and grace for he still is the God of Elijah the God of the impossible and like the old hymn says Who can still work wonders to perform? Let us pray
