We are living in a critical time in which spirituality in the churches is near an all-time low and immorality in society is near an all-time high. The pulpits of the land have lost their influence upon society and many Christians are no longer distinguishable from pagans. In our day, worldliness has infiltrated the churches to such a shameful degree there is no longer any distinction between the church and the world.
In the book of Acts we read the following. These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also. We must ask ourselves the painful probing question, why aren't we turning the world upside down today with our Christianity? It's because our breed of Christianity in America is so meager and impoverished in power that it can barely keep its own churches from dividing, let alone have any significant influence upon the society in which it lives.
We've used all the man-centered methodologies for church growth like the purpose-driven church, felt-need preaching, seeker services, but when these unscriptural methods are employed we may have crowds but we won't have power. We have done much in the name of Christ but without the power of heaven. Through the Holy Spirit, God has forsaken us and left us to our own pitiful and fleshly devices.
Our congregations are divided through infighting and disharmony. The divorce rate in the church is as high as pagan society and holiness among believers is as rare today as a lunar eclipse. Whenever the church fails to carry out the mandate of the Great Commission and proactively storm the gates of hell then a vacuum is created.
A healthy church advances the gospel to the ends of the earth and makes disciples. Its members exude vital Christianity through lives of surrender and holiness and passionate prevailing prayer is the heartbeat of a healthy church. However, when the church becomes like the world and begins to build upon its own foundations to further its own agenda it becomes an island unto itself interested in self-preservation rather than the clear commands of Christ to bring the gospel to the nations and to make disciples.
America as a nation has gone to the dogs morally and gone to the devil internally for we as a nation have turned our back on the God of the Bible and as a God-hating nation we have done all we can to legalize sin and legislate God out of our educational system and our judicial system. 9-11 was a wake-up call to this country but America since then has gone back to sleep. Has God given up on America is the title of my message today friends and will he give up on you? Has God given up on America? I wouldn't blame him if he has.
In the last decade I've never seen so many floods and fires and earthquakes and tornadoes as they sweep across this country bringing devastation one right after another. Mass shootings have become so commonplace. It's not safe to go outside anymore.
Our cities have become murder grounds. Evil runs rampant in the land as our society spins out of control in moral chaos. Has God given up on America? It sure looks like he has.
Very few are getting saved today because in our churches we fail to warn the souls of men of a future judgment that awaits all mankind. The false gospel we preach only butchers the souls of men and gives them a false hope of heaven while it damns their soul to hell. Has God given up on America? It sure looks like he has.
Will he give up on you? You're a haughty rebel who hates God and all things holy. You hate the lordship of Jesus Christ and refuse to bow your neck to him. You want to sit on the throne of your life and rule there while every weapon in your arsenal is pointed up at God in heaven and if you had enough gunpowder you'd shoot God off his throne and sit there yourself.
Has God given up on America? The question is will he give up on you? You have resisted his spirit as you fled to your false refuge of a good opinion of yourself. You gladly take Jesus as a savior so long as he can be your slave to do your bidding while you live in sin and hate holiness. Will God give up on you? In Genesis he says my spirit will not always drive with man and society back then had become so vile and wicked God had to drown it with a flood save Noah and his family.
America grows more wicked every day while the church has fallen to spiritual apostasy and deep spiritual declension. Has God given up on America? It sure looks like he has. Will he give up on you? If he gives up on you all he has to do is leave you alone while you walk a religious road to hell.
I once played golf with a giant of a man who had the filthiest mouth I ever heard. Every golf shot he took he cussed God and cursed everybody else. Finally I had enough and I approached him and I said to him can I ask you a question friend? He said shoot.
I said how was your relationship with God? He grinned a big grin and replied fine I have a great relationship with God. I leave him alone and he leaves me alone. And I believe friends that man's comment sums up the majority thought in America today as we leave God alone as we have thumbed our nose as a nation to God and have turned and walked away.
Has God given up on America? I'll let you decide. The burning question is oh will he have to give up on you?
