That people enter the church today under a sentence of death and live in ignorance to the curse they are under and the perilous position they are in because ministers in the pulpit today fail to warn them, fail to explain the dangers of damnation upon all men in a natural condition and thus seal their doom of a just sentence against them and damnation in hell, that the justice of God is fair in damning them and giving them the punishment which they deserve, that there's no cruelty in God for damning souls in hell for eternity, that in their natural condition they have a poison in their blood through imputed sin and are sinners not because they sin but rather they sin because they are big sinners. I'll never forget the story friends of the Scotsman in the Lewis revival who came under conviction of sin and was in distress over his soul to the point he was going out of his mind. Duncan Campbell came to visit the man in his cottage.

He was found kneeling at the bedside with his head in his hands crying, oh God, hell is too good for me, hell is too good for me. The wife of the distressed man pointed at her husband saying to Duncan Campbell, there he is Mr. Campbell, there he is, the mighty sinner, let him take his belly full and how opposite is this friends to our experience today where we enter the church by way of a cheap easygoing believism that produces no deep conviction of sin nor radical moral change. We just get folks to make a decision and then just whitewash our converts by way of baptism.

Tell them they are now Christians but they're like the ones described in Proverbs 30 12. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes and yet it's not washed from their filthiness but God states clearly in his word that all men are justly under his condemnation because the law shows that their damnation is just. We see this stated in Romans 3 19 which declares, oh whatsoever things the law saith, it saith to them that are under the law that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God.

There you have it friends. You can no longer be ignorant of the law's sentence upon you. The evidence of God's word declares that from the law that men have deserved destruction that they are worthy of death for they have broken God's holy law and according to the sentence of it which is the rule of justice they have merited damnation.

They are the proper causes of their own sins and have thrown themselves into the gulf of misery and hell and as torments as they deserve to go there like the word of God and Hosea declares, oh Israel thou has destroyed thyself like the Scotsman under conviction of sin and in distress over his soul cried out hell is too good for me hell is too good for me and from personal experience I can say to you friends that although I was a baptized church member for years I was not washed from my filthiness until the day God got me lost and showed me that I was yet my sins and that I was on my way to hell and not only that but I deserve to go there. Once your eyes are opened to the danger you lie in by resting upon a false bottom of an empty religious profession then you will begin to be alarmed as you are brought under conviction of sin and are awakened to your own lost condition that in your natural state you deserve damnation and that the justice of God is fair in damning you to hell for crimes committed in treason against a holy sovereign that the only way of escape is to flee to the refuge from sin in the person of Christ Jesus that in your sin sick malady you need a cure or a certain death for you and the only remedy for pardon of sin is found in the Lord Jesus Christ the sinner's sin substitute here is the wonder of wonders of heaven and earth that the sinless sinner was crucified for a big sinner like me that the blessed redeemer took the wrath of God upon him for a wretch like me that the spotless lamb of God became a curse for me I can cry with the Scotsman hell is too good for me hell is too good for me but I also can cry grace grace and bless God for his mercy in saving a big sinner like me let us pray
