E.A. Johnston teaches that true faith is demonstrated through obedient action, exemplified by Abraham's trust in God's command, which ignites a powerful witness to the world.
In this sermon, E.A. Johnston explores the inseparable connection between faith and obedience through the example of Abraham's test in Genesis 22. Johnston emphasizes that obedience is the active expression of faith that fuels spiritual growth and powerful witness. Listeners are encouraged to trust God boldly, believing in His ability to accomplish the impossible through their faithful actions.

We are in our Lessons in Faith series and the first lesson is Faith and Obedience. In Genesis 22 we read, And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah, and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains, which I will tell thee of. And Abraham rose early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and claimed the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went to the place of which God had told him.
I will stop there, friends. Here in our text we see Faith and Obedience. Abraham is obedient to the voice of God, for we read in verse 18, And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my voice.
Obedience is the oil of faith, ignited by the action of the man who takes God at his word, and by faith steps out on a limb for God, believing that with God all things are possible, thus turning trust in God into a vehement flame that burns so brightly it draws others to God as a beacon piercing the darkness of a perishing world. Faith and Obedience go hand in hand like biscuits in gravy. Do you desire to do big things for God? Then believe in a big God who is able to still do the impossible, for what is impossible for man is possible with God.
Do you believe that, friend?
