I live by the ocean, and every evening I take my little chihuahua for a walk by the ocean to watch the sunset, to see God's glory in creation. And when a tropical storm comes near, I still like to go watch the waves as they rise and crash into the rocks with the violence of a tempest driven with unrest. There is a verse of scripture that speaks of a lost soul in hell, and it is found in Isaiah 48.22, which states, There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.

No peace, all unrest, turmoil, and tempest, like waves crashing in the storm. The souls of the damned are in constant unrest and unspeakable misery. No peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.

Are you safe, friend? I didn't ask you if you were a deacon, or a pastor, or a good church member. You can be all of those and still be lost. Are you saved? Are your sins pardoned? Have you gotten to Christ and gotten under his blood for forgiveness of sin? Have you? The title of my message this evening, friends, is Safety in Coming to Christ.

My text can be found in the book of Isaiah. You can turn in your Bibles there now, friends. We will be in chapter 53, and I'll be in verses one through six.

And I'm going to break tradition in my preaching and keep my mouth shut as I read this passage uninterrupted. So as to have you hear and visualize the Christ of the cross. Christ is hidden in the bosom of the Father.

And if you get saved, friend, it's because you received a revealed Christ. Listen now to the word of God, and may God's spirit attend the reading of his holy word. Who hath believed our report, and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of a dry ground.

He hath no form nor calmliness. And when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

And we hid, as it were, our faces from him. He was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely, he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.

Yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities.

The chastisement of our peace was upon him. And with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray.

We have turned everyone to his own way. And the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. I will stop there, friends.

If that doesn't sober you, nothing will. I want to demonstrate to you that there is safety in coming to Christ. The gospel call is a call to come to Christ and believe on him.

The duty required is to come. You are invited to come because of the saving virtue of the blood of Christ, which is both acceptable to God and sufficient to pardon sin. You need to understand, friend, that God has mercy enough to pardon all your sins, though you yourself have no worthiness.

You come to Christ empty-handed, like a beggar would crouch low to a king seeking mercy. You need to understand both the faithfulness of God and his promises of the gospel, and that it is God himself who makes the offer in the gospel, there is safety in coming to Christ. Christ Jesus is the Son of God, and you may be satisfied in the divine virtue of his blood, and that God wounded him for our transgressions.

That the sufficiency of Christ is there, and God's ability to fulfill his promises is there. If you will only come to the one who can save you from the fires of hell, that you must understand that Christ has borne the curse, bought us with a price, made his soul an offering for sin, and fully satisfied the justice of God. That God's word is a sure foundation to build upon, and that Christ the Redeemer is the only foundation to rest upon.

You must get to Christ and get under his blood for forgiveness of sin. He is the only remedy for sin, and the only refuge from sin's penalty. Come to Christ, friend, and repent of your sins, and believe on him and be saved.

Listen to God's gospel call to you. Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money, come ye, buy and eat. Yea, come, buy wine and milk, without money and without price.

There is safety in coming to Christ because he has a pure gospel promise to all who come, who come to him and believe on him. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me, and him that cometh to me, I shall in no wise cast out, let us pray.
