When God Cuts Men Off

We live in desperate days where society is in turmoil and the church is fast asleep. Perversion spills all over the land like a filthy sewer and wrong is right and evil is called good. The hearts of men grow more hardened against God every day and they refuse to turn to him in confession and repentance.

It seems a spirit of hopelessness and helplessness has gripped the land yet the hearts of men harden more and more in their sin. At times God has to work severely to get our attention to bring us to reform ourselves and to return to him in heartfelt repentance like the people of Nineveh turned to the Lord in sackcloth and ashes under the preaching of Jonah. But when man still refuses to turn to God and hardens himself like Pharaoh did against the plagues in Egypt then God will step down from on high and cut men off.

It's a dreadful day friend when mercy runs out and God cuts men off. We see this in Numbers chapter 16 as we read about Korah's rebellion and the consequences of that rebellion. And it came to pass as he had made an end to speaking all these words that the ground cleaved asunder that was under them and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up and their houses and all the men that appertained unto Korah and all their goods.

Oh let me ask you friend what doesn't God open the ground beneath you and swallow you up right now? You're a haughty rebel. You despise all things holy. What's keeping him from just killing you now and sending you down to hell? Your feet on his earth just pollute it more and more as you walk in your course of sin.

You pollute the air with your filthy conversation. Why doesn't he just open the ground and suck you down to the bottomless pit? What's holding you up? What's holding him back? Maybe you are still in a day of mercy but his spirit will not always strive with man. Why doesn't he just cut you off now and remove you from this world? You've been warned to reform your ways.

He has reproved you time and time again yet you refuse to submit and yield to him. You reject his pleas and strivings over and over again. You refuse to heed the terrible judgment and warnings from Proverbs 29.1. He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck shall suddenly be destroyed and that without remedy.

What remedy is God talking about here? He means dying without the remedy for sin. The Lord Jesus Christ dying outside his blood. Oh why doesn't God unsheathe his glistening sword of judgment upon you now and just cut you off? He says he's thinking about it in Psalm 711.

We read God is angry with the wicked every day. If he turn not he will wet his sword. He hath bent his bow and made it ready.

Why won't you turn to God in repentance and faith? Why make him angry with your continued sin and rebellion? Why weary him so? Why sit there in your filthy lusts as you continually sin more and more against him? Why won't he just remove you now on your hardened state? The earth rumbles beneath your feet. He is mad and threatens you to take action. Then the earth shook and trembled.

The foundations also, the hills moved and were shaken because he was wroth. You've been warned time and time again by preachers and God's providence. Yet you're stiff in your neck.

Even still you go on in your sins like a dog to his vomit. You wallow like a hog in his mire. Oh why can't you revel in booze and lust like you do and reject Jesus as Lord? Resist the strivings and wooings of the Holy Spirit.

Why can't you do all that and not be cut off at once by a holy God and sent to hell? How can you lie and live in deceit and sin like the devil and not have God remove you? Why is holding him back from taking you out by sudden death right now? From opening the very ground beneath you? What's keeping him from sending a bolt of lightning to strike you from a blackened sky? You've rejected Jesus as Lord. The only God you want is the one that will keep you out of hell and leave you alone in your daily sinning. Oh why are you one of the biggest sinners out of hell? The solemn fact is that God views the wicked as cumbering the earth.

Why don't he cut you down in your present condition? Are you not just a vessel of wrath? The day is coming when he's gonna thrust in the sickle and the blood of man will form a pool a hundred miles around. Why don't he come down with his armies from heaven and take his vengeance upon you now? Oh when the Lord Jesus should be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his power. Oh why doesn't he come rain hell out of heaven on you now like he did on wicked Sodom? But they were sinners.

You're a big sinner. He doesn't do it because Jesus Christ hung on Calvary's cross and came from God's throne from a throne of judgment to a throne of grace and mercy. And grace now reigns and mercy is now extended and God delights in his mercy and judgment waits.

But it won't wait forever friend. It won't wait for you forever. If you've not trusted in this Savior, receive him now before it's too late.

Soon he will come in judgment upon the world when his anger shall burn as an oven and then you shall meet him as your judge. For behold the day cometh that shall burn as an oven and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly shall be stubble. And the day that cometh shall burn them up saith the Lord of hosts that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

Repent before it's too late.
