I can't find a better verse in my Bible, friends, that best describes this generation. In Proverbs, my Bible says, There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. This godless generation of relative thinking, politically correct individuals, who do what is right in their own eyes, even though it goes against the word of God, represent a people who have rejected the God of the Bible.
I want to read you a quote, friends, by Daniel Webster, who was a U.S. Senator and Secretary of State in the 19th century, back when America was still a Christian nation, and there was still a fear of God in the land. Listen to his insightful and prophetic words, written in 1823. I do not know what is going to become of us as a nation.
If truth be not diffused, error will be. If God and his word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain ascendancy. If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will.
If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness will reign without mitigation or end. Those were his words, friends. And I wonder what Daniel Webster would think about our pitiful, godless nation today, if he were to come back and look at it, look at a nation that promotes evil over good, and whose cities are filled with blood and violence and perversion.
But there is a better explanation of what is wrong with society today, and it's found in the book of Romans. Let me read that to you at this time, from Romans chapter 3. There is no fear of God before their eyes. And that's the sum of our nation, friends.
This nation no longer fears God, but rejects him entirely. When a nation turns her back on God, and governs herself without God, then anarchy and misrule will bring that nation to its knees, and bring that nation to the ash heap of history, just like the nations that have gone before it. Like the runes of ancient Rome and ancient Greece speak volumes to us today about how a godless society ends in utter ruin and degradation.
May God have mercy upon America. Only a Holy Ghost revival will turn this nation back to God. Let us pray that the God of heaven will be pleased to pour out his blessings upon this once great nation again.
Let us pray.
