Make Us a Name

May we turn together to the 11th chapter of Genesis. I'd just like to read in the first, in the middle of the fourth verse. The middle of the fourth verse of the 11th chapter of Genesis.

And let us, make us a name. Now the first verse. And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

We will commence as we go on with these verses, beloved. I'd like to bring tonight before you four scriptures in connection with the Lord Jesus. Being the answer to every problem we have to face.

Four scriptures. We draw your attention to those words in that fourth verse. Let us, make us a name.

Here we have in the first verse of this chapter, a little picture of the day of Pentecost. When all God's people were together. It reminds us of a little type of the day of Pentecost.

You know the book of Genesis, we believe is the seed plot of all the Bible. It's very difficult to consider the different truths in the Bible. And not be able to find in the book of Genesis the very seed.

We find all through the Bible. How wonderful that God is able in the first book of the Bible to give us all these marvelous truths. We find in the rest of the book.

And so I believe this first verse will bring before us a little picture, a little type of the day of Pentecost. When all God's people were together. And all things come and rejoice in the truth that God had given to them.

Then in the second verse, and it came to pass as they journeyed from the east. Now we know that the east brings before us the sunshine, the sun rising, or the light. And we know that very early in the church's history, they journeyed away from the light.

They left the truth of God. We know that in the history of the church, if we read it carefully, we'll find how true this is. It says that men turned away from the very truth of God.

And what happened? It says that they found a plain in the land of Shiner, and they dwelt there. Well, we believe in the day of Constantine, the Roman governor, the emperor rather. We believe that he made friends with the church.

They shook hands together, as it were. And the church lost its hope of a heavenly calling. The church lost that truth that they did not belong to this world, that they were separated.

And this sad condition has come down until this present day, when outwardly the church of God is in ruins. And, beloved brethren, we are part of that ruin. We have to confess tonight that we are part of that ruin.

Outwardly the church of God is in ruins. I like to think of that verse in the 16th chapter of the gospel of Matthew, where the Lord Jesus said, I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Now, we know that that is the church that Christ is building, which consists of all born-again precious souls that have been saved by the grace of God, members of his body, his church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against that church.

But man's building, the devil has prevailed against it, and we see wreck and ruin. And I'd like to say here, beloved brethren, and I do trust that what we say tonight, you will receive not from me, but from the Lord. You can never find a Christian that understands the Bible today that rejects Paul's ministry.

Please remember that, dear young Christians. I will repeat it again. You will never find a Christian that understands the truth of God today that turns away from Paul's doctrine, that he receives from a glorified and arisen Christ at God's right hand.

For Paul did not receive his ministry from Peter or John or from anybody in this world. He received his ministry from heaven. And the confusion today in Christendom is this, that they have rejected Paul's ministry.

How sad that is. And we repeat again that we today are part of this ruin. May God help us to be at least a little testimony to the truth of the one body of Christ.

The devil hates us, and we believe that as the Lord's coming draws nearer, Satan is going to continue his attacks on that truth that is so precious to the heart of Christ, that there is one body, there is. And each one of us who has the eye of faith can see tonight that glorious truth, there is one body, Ephesians 4 and verse 4, how important that truth is. May the Lord help each one of us to really and honestly and truly, by the grace of God, see that Paul's ministry is rejected.

I remember when I was first saved, I didn't know very much about the scriptures, hardly anything. I didn't even know what John 3.16 was. And I was visiting an old aunt of mine, I suppose she was around 70 years of age, and she said, so you go to what they call the brethren's meetings.

And I said, yes. And she said, you know, they're queer people. She said, they don't allow the women to preach.

They don't allow women to preach at home. Well, I didn't know very much about the assemblies. I'd only been saved about a couple of months then.

And I said, well, I think there's a scripture, I remember hearing about a scripture where God forbids women to preach. And she said, no, God doesn't forbid women to preach at home. Paul forbids women to preach.

Well, I said to her, didn't Paul write the epistles? Are not the epistles part of the truth of God? And she said, listen, Paul wrote that because he didn't like the women and he wanted to keep them quiet. Well, you see, she rejected, now she was a born-again Christian, there's no doubt about it. She was separated from the world.

She didn't go to theaters, she didn't drink or smoke. She was a separated Christian from this world, but she rejected Paul's ministry. And she's got thousands of followers tonight in the United States and Canada who reject Paul's ministry.

Oh, how blessed it is to see that we do not belong to this world. The Lord Jesus said twice in John 17, they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Now, there's not a Christian, I don't think, under heaven who would say our blessed Lord Jesus Christ belonged to this world.

Well, he says he doesn't belong to it and we don't belong to it. We're called out of it. We sometimes use that illustration, which we use for young people, you'll pardon us using it tonight.

When we were young boys, we used to play baseball. There might be at least 30 young boys all wanting to join in this baseball game, but only 18, nine on each team were allowed. And we used to throw this bat and one of the captains would catch it and they'd go up, and then they'd look into the audience and they'd say, you, and they'd pull them out of the crowd and he would go and stand behind his captain.

And, beloved, that's exactly what the Lord Jesus Christ has done to you and to me in this poor Christ-rejecting world. He said, you, on my side. He's called us out of the world, out of darkness, into his marvelous light.

And so they found this plain and they dwelt there. And the third verse, and they said one to another, go to. Let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.

And they had brick for stone and slime had they for mortar. Well, we know that man can make bricks, and we believe that God makes the stones. Well, we have this tonight, and I've seen about Christendom, this great religious system of Christendom where man makes his bricks.

And we know, beloved friends, I was one of the bricks at one time. And maybe there's some here tonight who can say yes, and I was one of the bricks. We were baptized, oh, certainly.

We were religious people, but we were only man-made bricks. We had never been born again. Oh, they had brick for stone, and they had slime for mortar.

And I believe that slime would speak of man's association, while the mortar would speak of the Holy Spirit of God who brings each one of God's people into that blessed place of the truth of the one body. Well, they don't understand it, maybe, because of lack of teaching. You know, dear saints of God, you who have been brought up with those who are gathered to the Lord's name will never really know the darkness that surrounds us, the darkness, I say without fear of contradiction, the darkness that's in prison tonight is appalling.

People don't know whether they're saved, whether they're sure of their salvation, whether they can really say, I'm going to heaven. They only hope to get there because of the teaching they receive. How much we should value the truth that God has given to us.

Brethren, don't sell out. Don't allow the devil to make you and me sell out and give up the truth that God has given to us that our old brothers loved and valued and that men and women died for that you and I might have the truth of God as found in the holy scriptures, the word of God. And so we have, I believe, this slime today.

If man plans to build one great universal church, and he's going to succeed, but it's going to come under the judgment of God, they're going to have slime instead of mortar. They're going to have man's association, man's building. And may God help us all not to be entangled with that awful system that man is building up one great world church, which I believe at the end, in the core of the book of Revelation, will turn to demon worship.

How sad it is to find in the country to the south, in the west coast and further east, 20,000 people at least who are worshiping the devil. That's a fact. That's an established fact.

They have buildings in the west and further in eastward. They have buildings where men and women go on what they call Sunday, the Lord's Day, and they worship the devil. Just imagine how near the Lord's coming must be, for we know in the book of Revelation that men are going to worship the devil and they are going to worship the beast.

And they've started already. What a solemn time you and I are living in when moral and spiritual darkness is closing in on this poor world. Well, in the 4th verse, they said, "'Go to, let us build us a city and a tower whose top may reach unto heaven.

And let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whore.' Now, I believe this city would speak of confusion. I'm sure that each one of us who lives in these two cities, Montreal and Toronto, can understand something of the confusion that we find in the cities at 5 o'clock at night. Confusion reigns in the cities as a traffic, as men and women rush home from work.

And so I believe that God would bring before us in this city the confusion that's all around us. And it's very interesting in the 22nd chapter of Luke's gospel to find that the Lord Jesus sent the two disciples into the city and there a man would meet them bearing a picture of water. And in that confusion, at chrismum tonight, the only person that can lead us out of this darkness and confusion is the Spirit of God who bears the picture of water, the Word of God.

Satan is trying with all his power to deceive God's people in these last and closing days of his grace. And so we have the city and the tower, man's efforts to get to heaven. Now, we know, dear friends, each one of us, we know there's men tonight and last night that stood up and told people they didn't need a Savior, they didn't need the blood of Christ, they didn't need anything else but their own intellect, their own willpower, their own changing over a new leaf and turning to religion to get to heaven.

That's the power we have here. Now, we must hurry. I'd like to say we know this story very well, that the whole thing ended in confusion.

Their languages were all confused. They didn't understand each other. Now, isn't that exactly what we find today in chrismum? You know that, too, beloved.

I'd like to say this right here. I believe that you and I, as Christians, should have a love for every child of God in the world. Every born-again Christian, we should love them and we should pray for them and we should always try to help them to see in scripture the word of God, the truth of God.

But I believe that when we meet these dear Christians and they ask us, where do we go, what do we belong, what do we tell them? Well, isn't it nice to tell them that we belong to the only church in the world that God recognizes? Oh, they say, what church is that? It must be the Protestant church. Indeed, it's not. Oh, they say it must be the Catholic church.

No, it's not. It's the only church that God recognizes in the whole world and that's the church that is made up of men and women who are born again and united to a risen and glorified Christ at the right hand of God. Now, there is a testimony we know to the name of the Lord Jesus.

We believe that and we know it. And I believe, dear brethren, because we do get the courage that we can turn to 1 Corinthians 11, verse 26 and read that blessed verse where we have the past, we just show the Lord's death, we have the present, where as often as he eats this bread and drinks this cup, we have the future till he comes. And I believe that that verse tells you and me to faith that when the Lord Jesus comes, there's going to be still some who are breaking bread gathered to the Lord's name.

Don't you want to be among that number? How important it is to go by the word of God. I was speaking to a brother recently and he said, somebody asked me about a present-day problem and he said, what do you think about it? And I said, I don't think anything about it. I want to know what God says about it.

How important, it doesn't matter what you think, it doesn't matter what I think, what does God say about it? And if we would only go by the scriptures, we'd never have sorrows and troubles like we have. If we went by the word of God, instead of by arguing and reasoning with man's reason and trying to reason into the scripture the things that we want to believe, let us believe what God says. God's word is so simple and so plain that even children can understand it.

We don't have to go to McGill University or Varsity to understand the word of God. We have a teacher, the Holy Spirit, and he is able to teach us the truth of God in this blessed book. Well, I want to draw your attention again to this fourth verse.

Let us make us a name. What is the name? The name of Jesus. Now, I believe that Christ is the answer to every problem, whether it's in the assembly or whether it's in business or whether it's in home, whether it's with our children, whether it's with the husband or the wife, Christ is the answer, God's only answer to every problem we have to face.

Let us turn to Philippians 2 and see what God says about a name. Let us make us a name. Well, I believe that God answers this in the 2nd chapter of Philippians, and verse 9. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him and given him a name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Now, here is God's answer to let us make us a name, that at the name of Jesus. Oh, how blessed. And yet, dear child of God, isn't it a strange thing that even born again Christians are not willing to accept this name when we say we're gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.

This is the highest name. He says here in our verse, he has highly exalted him, given him a name which is above every name. There's no name like that name.

This is God, the name that God has given. Can we find a higher name than the name of Jesus? Why would we want to have any other name? Why would we want to name ourselves after Peter or Paul or John or any other name under heaven when we have that name, the name of Jesus? It's hard to understand why a real Christian who loves the Lord Jesus is not willing to say, what a name. We couldn't find another name in heaven to be compared to that name.

And yet, because we believe we turn away from the word of God, we're not willing to accept the name which is above every name. Now let us look at the 32nd chapter of Exodus. In the first verse, And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us.

For as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we want not what has become of him. And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. And all the people break off the golden earrings which were in their ears and brought them unto Aaron.

And he received them at their hand and fashioned it with a graven tool after he had made it a molten calf. And they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. You see, the people tired of waiting for an ascended Moses, Moses had gone up into the mountain, and the people were weary as they waited day after day for Moses' return.

Now isn't that exactly what's happening today? The Lord Jesus Christ is on the mountain. He's in the glory. And he's been there now as a man for nearly 2,000 years.

And before he left, he said, I will come again. And the Apostle Paul expected Christ. The Apostle Paul never expected to die, I believe, until God revealed that later on to him in 2 Timothy.

But he tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4, Then we which are alive and remain, as if he was going to be alive and remain. And when the Lord Jesus told about the ten virgins, the ten virgins that fell asleep were the same ones that woke up. And the servants that were sent out were the same servants that came back.

Because the Spirit of God would always have before you and me the truth that Christ might come at any moment. It was the wicked servant who said, My Lord, Beliath, is coming. He said it in his heart.

My Lord, Beliath, is coming. But you and I shouldn't do that. We should expect the Lord every day of the week.

For the Lord is coming. And someday we'll arise some morning for the last time. And the Lord will come.

But they wearied here. And they said, Up, make us God. Now notice where they got the instruments or the material to make these gods.

Off their ears. Isn't it strange and blessed too to find the word of God warns us in the last days. They'll arise having itching ears.

Don't we find that today, beloved? Men don't want the truth. Men don't want the truth. A dear Christian, he went to visit the outside Halifax.

And he said, I stood up in front of a group of men. And I say without fear, all clergymen. And he said, I stood there and I said, gentlemen, how wonderful to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

And to know the power of his cleansing precious blood that was shed on the cross of Calvary. And to have the Bible, the word of God, true from the beginning. And he said, when I finished speaking, a group came up to me and said, we don't want that kind of thing.

We don't believe it anymore. That was all right for our grandfathers. But this is a modern age we live in.

We want to be modern in our thoughts and in our doctrine. Well, itching ears. Itching ears.

And I said, you young men who preach the gospel, don't allow yourself to get these itching ears. God says there's a hell. Let us not be afraid to tell men that if they reject Christ, they'll perish under the judgment of God.

Oh, the soft petal that surrounds us. Men are afraid to tell the truth of God. And who is affected by the fact that we're afraid to tell the truth? Our young people, they go off and they ask the questions as to the truth of God.

Because when we were young, our dear old brethren, who are now with the Lord, without fear stood up. Without fear. And they were laughed at, these men, for the truth that they loved and held.

You know as well as I do. Those dear old brethren who by the grace of God taught us the truth, they were laughed at by many. But they stood for the truth of God and they're gone for their reward.

And someday we'll see them get their reward. They didn't sell out. Are we going to sell out? Those teachers with itching ears, they took the earrings off their ears and they formed the cast.

And Aaron, they gathered unto Aaron. They gathered unto Aaron. They didn't wait for Moses to come down.

They had now a new center. They gathered to Aaron. Oh, beloved, how many Aarons are around us today.

Aarons are around us. May God keep us from gathering around Aaron instead of Christ. We need Christ, beloved.

If ever we needed Christ, we need Christ now. We need the ministry of Christ. We need to have Jesus come and open to us in all the scriptures the things concerning himself, his person, himself, beloved.

Himself. I remember, I remarked the other night that when the disciples went back and walked no more with the blessed Lord, he turned to the Twelve. I love to think of Jesus turning to the Twelve.

And saying, will you also go away? You who have been with me and walked with me and seen my miracles and heard my wonderful words of power, are you going to go away from me too? And dear Peter said, Lord, to whom shall we go? There's nobody else. Who can we go to? There's nobody else. And now in this dark age, there's nobody else, brethren.

There's nobody else but Jesus. We need him as never before. We always needed him.

But we need him now as we never needed him before. And may God help you, young brothers, to stand for the truth of God and to stand for the Christ of God and to stand for the word of God and to stand for the blood of Christ and to stand for that blessed one who is not ashamed to hang on the cross of Calvary, spit upon by filthy creatures like you and me insulted and crowned with a crown of thorns up and make us gods, they said. Now let us look at in connection with God's answer in Hebrews chapter 1. Hebrews chapter 1. We have God's answer.

And here Christ again is brought before us. Christ is God's answer, beloved, to everything that man suggests, everything that man suggests to try to draw the crown, to try to get the room filled. Christ is the answer that God has.

Verse 8. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever. That's addressed to the Son. We know in the 45th Psalm, I think it's the 6th verse, it's addressed to God himself.

But here it is addressed to the Son. Why? Because he's God. Oh, do we want God? Up, make us gods.

Here is the God. Here is the only God we know, our Lord Jesus Christ. The epistle of John, the 5th chapter ends, little children, keep yourselves from idols.

What does it mean? It refers to the Father and the Son in the verse before and everything else, everything else that doesn't include the Father and the Son as an idol. And oh, there's a certain sect around today, a cult around that has an idol, but it's not the God of the Bible. Oh, how good it is to have our God.

Up and make us gods. But here we have that blessed one. We worship him.

We worship him. A man in Sacramento on the street, and he tried to tell us that he believed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God. Well, I said, do you really believe that? He said, I do.

We said, is he eternal? Was he created? He said, yes, Jehovah created him. Ah, he had a God of his own imagination. But it wasn't the God of the Bible, for the God of the Bible is eternal.

I am he that liveth and became dead, and I'm alive forevermore. Oh, beloved brethren, Jesus Christ is God. And I said to this man, tomorrow morning a few of us are going to a room to break bread, and we are going to worship Christ, as he's not God, we're idolaters, we're idolaters.

Indeed we are. But the Lord Jesus Christ is God. And he says here, but under the sun he said, thy throne, O God, is forever and ever.

Now in the 14th chapter of the book of Numbers, in the 14th chapter of the book of Numbers, well, to save time, we'll start reading the third verse. Numbers 14-3. And wherefore hath the Lord brought us unto this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? Were it not better for us to return unto Egypt? And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.

And so on. Ah, here they wanted a captain. They wanted a captain.

They had a calf in the 32nd of Exodus. Now they want a captain. Isn't that the way man progresses? Isn't that what man thinks? Isn't that what man's reasons tell us? Let us return to Egypt, the world.

Were they fed, according to the 11th chapter, on the leeks and the garlic and the onions of Egypt? You know, I've often said, and speaking in those verses, you wouldn't have to ask a man, if you met him on the street, if you met him in the land back there through the wilderness, what did you have for dinner? If he was eating leeks and garlic and onions. You'd know right away as you met him. And how many dear Christians are feeding on the leeks and the garlic and the onions of this poor, Christ-rejecting world.

And when you meet them, they can't speak about the Lord. And you know right away what they've been feeding on. Oh, when we meet God's people, and when we say goodbye to them, either we leave them with an encouragement, or we leave them and they walk away discouraged and say, I wish I never met that person.

I remember a certain brother. Sometimes we used to meet him after work and walk home with him. And my wife used to always know when I walked home with that brother because when I went into the house I was always unhappy.

Because all he talked about going home were the failures of the brethren, all the mistakes of the brethren, all the things they did that he didn't agree with. This was his theme. Oh, that wasn't the theme of the Lord Jesus in Luke 24.

Those two disciples never would have said, did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us by the way, and while he opened unto us the scriptures? Oh, we have a better theme. We have better food than to talk about the failures of our brethren. We have our own failures.

Each one of us fails. And it is good when we find out how true it is, how good it is to have Christ before us, to enjoy Christ. In the old days, we read in the book of Acts, I think it's the fourth chapter in the 13th verse, when they saw those poor disciples, fishermen, tax gatherers, and they perceived they were unlearned men, they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.

Oh, there was something about Peter and John and the other apostles, even though they had to say, these fellows don't know anything. They couldn't take away from them the fact that they had been with Jesus. Have you and I been with Jesus? When we meet our brethren, do they say, well, you know, he hasn't got a very good education, he can't speak very well, he uses very bad grammar, but thank God he's been with Jesus, and he was used to warm up my heart.

How good that is, brethren. And so they wanted a captain, and they wanted the captain to lead them back into the land of Egypt. How sad that was.

Has God got an answer for this? Indeed he has. In Hebrews chapter 2, Hebrews chapter 2, we have God's answer. And again, it's Christ, for Christ is always God's answer.

Hebrews chapter 2, verse 10, For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through suffering. Here we have Christ again, the captain of our salvation, not to lead us back into Egypt, but to lead us into glory, the captain of our salvation, the Lord Jesus Christ himself. What a Savior.

He's going to lead you and me as a captain of our salvation. He's going to lead us into that place of glory above. God's answer is always Christ.

Let us make us a captain. God says that Jesus, his beloved Son, is the captain of our salvation. Oh, let us repeat again and again, Christ is God's only answer.

Dear young people, I ask you not to believe this modern teaching that we live in a day, in 1972, when Christ is not sufficient any longer, and the holy scriptures of the past are too old-fashioned for this educated world in which we live today. To go on in the truth of God, we must have something else. We must have a captain.

We must have somebody to lead us and to guide us. No, away with them all. And let us look to Christ.

Let us look to God's answer for our problems, which is Christ. He is God's answer to the problems of God's people, Christ and only Christ. And so he's the captain of our salvation.

If we want a captain to lead us, Jesus is ready to lead us and to guide us. And the Holy Spirit has never changed. We have changed.

Somebody sometimes, some brethren sometimes say, they look back, these older brethren, they look back 60 years and they say, what awful changes have taken place. What awful changes have come in since those 50 or 60 years have passed. But the Lord hasn't changed, and the Holy Spirit hasn't changed, and the Bible hasn't changed.

God hasn't revised the Bible, though men have tried to. God hasn't revised the Bible to fit in with this ungodly age in which we live. God hasn't changed its program to fit in with man's reason of this ungodly age in which we live.

No, the Bible is the word of God. It never changes. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my word shall not pass away.

Christ is the answer. We need Christ, beloved. And so God's answer is Christ.

Now, there's another scripture in 1 Samuel 8. 1 Samuel 8, in verse 4. Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel unto Ramah and said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel.

But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord. What a wonderful remedy Samuel had when they said, Make us a king.

We want to be like the nations. Now isn't this true today that those who are Christians don't, isn't it sad to see so many of God's people saying, We want to be like the nations. We want to be like the people around us.

We don't want to be different. We want to mix in with them. We believe the way to win people is to join in with them.

Get into their parties. Get into their sports. Get into their amusement.

Attend the theaters. And talk to them and try to win them. All man's reasons, beloved.

And what did Samuel do? He prayed unto the Lord. Oh, do we pray unto the Lord when we see these things happen? Samuel had a place of refuge. A place of power.

And that place is our place. Samuel prayed unto the Lord. As we look sometimes into these audiences and see young brothers, some of them 25, some of them 35, and some of them 45, we say to you young brothers, especially you young brothers, Don't sell out.

Don't give up the truth of God. Don't give it up, dear young man. Stand for God, and God will bless you.

They that honor me I will honor, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. That beautiful verse in Hebrews 1 says, Thou remainest. How good.

Let everybody go, but thou remainest. The Lord remains. Like the little girl whose father's farm was completely destroyed by fire.

And a neighbor came and said to him, I'm sorry that you've lost everything. And the little girl said, But we haven't lost the Lord. Isn't that good? Isn't that good, beloved? We haven't lost the Lord.

The Lord is with us, and he'll never leave us, and he'll never forsake us. Oh, we've failed. We would be wrong to say we've never failed.

Again I say we're part of the ruins of the professing church. All around us is in ruins. But oh, how nice to lift up our eyes away from the world and see the face of Jesus.

Make us a king. We might be like all the nations. But the thing displeased Samuel.

This old servant of God was displeased by their request, and God reminded him. He said, They haven't rejected you, Samuel. They've rejected me.

And when we reject the truth of God, we don't reject the truth of brethren. We reject the truth of God, beloved. It's God's truth.

Samuel, that old servant of God, that faithful old man, in his sorrow, displeased and grieved by their request for a king to lead them like all the nations, he turned to the Lord. How good that is, to be able to turn to the Lord. When we get trials and difficulties and things that are too big for us to handle, we say, What will we do? May we follow the example of this dear old faithful man who then he prayed unto the Lord.

Well, Israel wanted a king. And has God got an answer to that? Yes, indeed, he has. In the 45th Psalm.

In the 45th Psalm, verse 1, Now notice in the 44th Psalm how discouraged these people are in the 22nd verse. Then in the 45th Psalm, notice the king is brought before us. Who is this king of glory? The Lord of hosts.

The Lord strong in battle. He is the king. Jesus.

And Jesus again is Christ again. Notice, My heart is indicting a good matter. I speak as a result of the heart, meditating on the king, beloved.

Then, as a result of my heart being affected by the king, my tongue is the pen of a ready writer. And so on. Thou art fairer than the children of men.

Grace is poured into thy lips. The beauty and the loveliness of the king, of the Lord Jesus, is brought before us. Now, let's just look one moment at the 46th Psalm and see the result of being occupied with the king.

Why sleepest thou? Arise! We are counted as sheep for the slaughtered. Isn't this the place we often get to? Here, notice. God is our refuge and strength.

A very present help in trouble. Therefore will we not fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried in the midst of the sea, and so on. And then, down further in the 10th verse, be still and know that I am God.

I will be exalted among the heathen. I will be exalted on the earth. The Lord of hosts is with us.

The God of Jacob is our refuge. See that. Think of that.

Consider that. How blessed. Distressed.

Discouraged. Counted as sheep for the slaughtered. Accusing God of sleeping.

Then the king is brought before us. Then the heart indicts the good matter. Then the tongue starts to speak of the loveliness of the king.

And then they say, we don't care if the whole earth is removed. We don't mind what happens. The God of Jacob is with us.

The Lord of hosts is with us. How blessed that is. Yes, God has an answer.

Make us a king. Christ is the future king. And then in the 19th revelation, the 19th revelation, we have him brought before us again as the king.

As he comes out of heaven in connection with his appearing and judgment. This is the 16th verse. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

How blessed. It tells us in the end of the 12th verse, he hath a name written that no man knew but he himself. Ah, there are secrets about this blessed one that no human person can enter into.

Nobody can fathom the depth of the wonders of the person of Christ. King of kings and Lord of lords. There is one more verse in the 32nd chapter of Isaiah.

The first verse. Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in judgment, and a man shall be as in hiding place from the wind and so on. Oh, the king, beloved.

Up, make us kings. God's answer is Christ. Here is the king.

Beloved, you and I are going to reign with this king over the earth. The king is coming. The king is Christ.

Christ is the answer to every problem. Whether it be to make us a name, the name of Jesus. Whether it be to make us God, Ah, thy throne, O goddess forever and ever.

Whether it be to be a captain to lead us back into Egypt, God comes back with a captain to lead us into glory, the captain of our salvation. Whether they would have a king, God presents Christ. God presents Christ.

How good it is to find that God presents Christ, beloved. Christ is the answer on every problem that you and I have to face in life. May the Lord grant that you and I will be able to say, He is the one.

He is the one. He is the one to satisfy us. He is the one to bring blessing.

I'd just like to think of one more verse before we pray and close in the end. The 5th chapter of the Song of Solomon. Here we have the blessed Lord Jesus brought before us.

Notice his head in verse 11. His head, O men, crown that head with a crown of thorns. Verse 12, his eyes, they blindfolded his eyes.

His cheeks, they plucked the hair from his cheeks. His hands, they nailed to the cross, verse 14. Verse 15, his legs, well, they didn't break his legs, but they nailed his blessed feet to the cross of Calvary.

His mouth, his mouth. Oh, what sweet words came out of his mouth. What precious words came out of that blessed mouth, his mouth.

And the Spirit of God ends up by saying, Yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem. The 6th chapter, verse 1. Wherefore is thy beloved gone, O thou fairest among women? Whither is thy beloved turned aside, that we may seek him with thee? Christ is the answer.

O beloved, if you and I enjoy Christ, God's people will say, Let us search him together. Let us find him. Let us find this one who is the altogether lovely one.

Has the world taken note of us that we belong to Jesus? When we leave our prayer meetings and our Bible readings, and from the break of bread meetings, is there in our faces that joy, that peace, that tells those we meet on the street, maybe our brethren and sisters outside, do they say, Why are you people so happy? What is the secret of your happiness? Ah, we've been with him who is altogether lovely. And then they will say, Let us search him with you. Let us find him.

Let us find him, God's beloved one. O God's beloved. We present tonight God's beloved one, the Christ, the Son of God, the one who has never failed us, brethren, the one who will never fail us.

He's always the same. He'll never change. His love is like himself.

It's eternal. May as we leave this place tonight, may the Lord warm our hearts. May the Lord draw our affections out to Christ.

And may we pray for all God's people in these last and closing days of the day of grace just before we see the lovely face of the man who died for us. May God grant that we will indeed be used by the Lord to bring Christ before God's people. For God's people, including each one of us, we need today Christ, his person, his loveliness.

Let us sing together number 17. May the grace of Christ our Savior and the Father's boundless love with the Holy Spirit rest upon us from above. Thus may we abide in union with each other and the Lord and possess in sweet communion joys which earth can ne'er afford.
