Our Father, we are very, very grateful. We acknowledge the fact that if it is not you who deliberately brought us to yourself because of what you intend to do with us and our homes, we wouldn't be here.

But your zeal for what we must all become again compels you in love to bring us to yourself. What you are saying to us is very, very much of intensity in your heart as we can feel it. We simply just bow to you, bow to your purpose, bow to your love, bow to your power.

That, Father, what you intend to do with us, you will do. We want to pray particularly for us that our husbands, as we survey the role that you want us to play in our homes, is altogether very awesome. And, Father, we just must cry back to you because where you are placing us is simply too much for any one of us.

I thank you of your assured help. Thank you of all that you are doing for us to fulfill your purpose. And we pray that we will bring you joy, satisfaction, rising in your help to do what you will have us to do for the kingdom's sake and for our spouses, our children.

We ask you to help us, therefore, together even this time. For we are prayed together in Jesus' name. Amen.

In looking at a husband providing Christlike leadership in the home, I will have us to read a couple of scriptures together. I will begin by looking at why we must seek this understanding very seriously. Why we as husbands, we must face the fact of providing Christlike leadership in the home.

I will read with us, please, starting with Genesis chapter 3 and to look at verse 16. Then I will also read the book of Esther before we look at Ephesians. Or just to allow us to see what Jesus say to us as far as our leadership role is concerned.

We may also read Mark chapter 10, 42 to 45. I will read these passages very quickly as we pray the Lord to help us to go on together. Genesis chapter 3 verse 16 says, Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and conception.

In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children, and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. Thy desire shall be to thy husband, and thy husband will rule over thee. The book of Esther, chapter 1, I will read verse 21, 22.

We would have read from some passages before these verses, but we are looking at our time seriously. It says, And the same pleased the king and the princes. And the king did according to the word of Memucan.

For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of everybody. It should be published, sorry, that every man should rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of everybody. The Lord Jesus Christ, in Mark chapter 10, verse 42, say, But Jesus called them to him and said unto them, You know that they which are counted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them, but so shall it not be among you.

But whosoever will be great among you shall be your minister, and whosoever of you will be chiefest shall be the servant of all. For even the son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life as a ransom for many. Let's then read together Ephesians chapter 5, the main text that will be helping us to look at some of the responsibility of the husband in the home.

Verse 23, For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and he is the savior of the body. Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be unto their own husband in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it, that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the world, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that it should be holy and without blemish.

So ought men to love their wives as their bodies, either loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourished and cherished it, even as Christ the church. For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they too shall be one flesh. This is a great mystery that I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless, let every one of you in particular so love his wife, even as himself and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

Amen. I say I want to very briefly begin by looking at why we must seek this understanding as husband that we must provide Christ-like leadership in the home. I've read Genesis chapter 3 verse 16 and also read Esther chapter 1 verse 21 and 22 to just let us gain an understanding of what has been entrenched so much in the heart of a man, of the husband, of the husband man.

The position and the kind of leadership, the kind of leadership responsibility, the way to do it that has been the common knowledge. If we are not help of the Lord and do not particularly look up to the Lord and face up the fact that our own leadership role, our own responsibilities as children of God must differ, we might be caught up with this that has been entrenched very much in the heart of the man. And even perhaps, even wives may not see it perhaps as wrong, even as they suffer it because of what the fallen, the fallen man has done to marriages as we are beginning to study.

Genesis chapter 3 that we read said that, verse 16, that even though I was wanting to look at Genesis 3 that we read together, say unto the woman, he said, the Lord said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and your conception. In sorrow you are going to bring forth children. And he said, and yet thy desire shall be unto thy husband, and he shall rule over you.

He shall rule over you. We noted that that is what was left with our hearts, left with man and left with the husband, the husband man. I'm calling it a husband man because we must all know that all husbands are men.

Husband must be a man, isn't it? It shouldn't be a husband woman. So I deliberately call it the husband man. If you catch me saying that, that's my reason for saying it.

And I saw how it was reinforced in the book of Esther. And I wanted us to know that what we are reading in the book of Esther and of course now in the book of Genesis has been there for all these centuries. All this century that has been the understanding that has stayed in the heart of the husband for a very, very, very long time.

And as I saw in the book of Esther, it came with the force of a decree. It came with an understanding even of a decree that the king was making that every man should rule over his wife. And that it was published in every language, was published widely.

Every culture seems to agree that the leadership responsibility of the man is expressed in ruling over the wife. Even though we've noted, we'll note very quickly that what was said in Genesis is part of the course that was placed on the woman. But that's the understanding that several situations have seemed to enforce in the heart of the man that he is to rule over the wife, over the children, is to rule.

And we are seeing that situations have reinforced it, cultures have reinforced it. It seems to be an understanding as we read in the book of Esther in every language, in every people, seems to be a general understanding that is being operated everywhere. If we look at the word rule, why it is true that the husband must provide a very firm leadership in his house as the word rule should portray, a very firm leadership in his house.

The word rule, as I'm saying, is characterizing the types of leadership that several husbands are seemingly operating in their homes. Several people, perhaps they seem to say that if I'm to get honor, if I'm to get respect, if I'm to get followership by the wife, I should rule. The word rule itself, perhaps it simply means to regulate, to be in charge, to make decisions, to reign over.

It would have been the word rule itself, if we take it in one part, it is positive to regulate, to be in charge, to make decisions for. But you see, there is a part of it that says to reign over, and to reign means to exercise sovereign power, to exercise sovereign power. And as we read in the book of Esther, that's exactly what King Aceros did in his own marriage.

King Aceros simply sat through a party, when he was very merry and drunk, simply said that they should bring the queen, they should bring the wife, just to come and show her beauty, because she was very beautiful. And we see several husbands quietly in their hearts, quietly in their operations, just ruling over the wife, just for their ego. So when we see that, why just to express an ego? This king, and it surprised me that we will find several examples like that in scriptures.

And when they finally say it should be widespread, it should be written as a decree, I just noted what the enemy just wanted very quietly to drop in the heart of the man. God helping us, it will do something different with our own lives, and our own leadership in our homes, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. So I saw that there could be husbands, husband, and perhaps even among us, that that kind of handling of our leadership, could be playing in our own hearts.

The fact that, as I checked, I sat down, I was checking, several people just ruled their homes like that. I mentioned the case of that king, who just, when he was married, was literally using the wife as a part of the decoration. You know, they decorated the hall, they did several things, and when he was married, they just said that the wife should come, and the wife, of course she refused.

When she refused, you know it was a matter. I saw that even the king that Esther finally married, it was the same kind of thing, of ruling over a woman in the same manner. I wondered that that king as well, when Esther reported that to see him as a husband, the wife has to be admitted.

If he comes, if he's not sent for particularly, and the scepter is extended towards her, even as a wife, if he entered, it was a problem, he would die. And Esther reported that for this month, she has never seen her husband. I said, ah, what kind of a marriage is that one? That for the wife to see her husband, it must be special permission.

Several husbands like that, that I check in scriptures, and I say, oh, God must help us that, that curse must not be what is operating in our own homes, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. You remember Abigail had a husband. What is that his name? Nabal.

As they were reporting Abigail being the husband of Nabal, they say something about Nabal that was very, that they reported about him. So Abigail was the wife. Abigail was very beautiful.

Abigail was very wise. But then he had a husband, and that husband, I wish we can read that. I'm saying this because I pray the Lord will help us, that as many of us that are husbands today, as the Lord shows us how to provide Christlike leadership, if there have been form of this kind of forms of responsibility or leadership that we have been bearing, the Lord must deliver us from it, in the name of the Lord.

I think it's in 1 Samuel 25, verse 3, they say, now the name of the man was Nabal, the name of the wife was Abigail, and she was a woman of good understanding, of a beautiful countenance, but the man was churlish and evil in his own doings, and he was at the house of Caleb. I was wondering why, as soon as they brought the case of Abigail's marriage to Nabal, they began to tell of the man, Nabal, what kind of man, what kind of husband he was. They say he was churlish.

That word, if someone can read it in a simpler version, we may understand what kind of husband Nabal was. Husbands are just rude over their wives without consideration. When we read that in a simpler version, let me read it in God's word.

There is a version called God's word. It says, the man's name was Nabal, and his wife's name was Abigail. She was sensible and beautiful, but he was harsh and mean.

He was of the descendant of Caleb. I'm just praying that God will help us, and that we don't have such husbands here, informed from the fact that they thought they could just rule over the wife. The Bible says Nabal, while Abigail was sensible and beautiful, Nabal was harsh and mean.

He could just shout at the wife anyhow. He was mean. He could do anything to that woman, and not feel anything.

He was harsh. Several husbands are just harsh. A few years ago, a sister told me that the children, they, the children, they had a cult, that the man was so harsh, so brutal, that they, the children, had a kind of a word that used to warn them, as any one of them that sighted their father first coming, they would just turn their back and say, Lion.

And when they say Lion, every child would disappear, because as soon as the man enters the house, he's shouting, Who put this thing here like this? Who do this thing? So, everybody was afraid to be the first to be sighted, because you will, you will receive something. So, they developed that cult in their house. When they sighted him, any one that saw him first, a sister said, they would just turn their back at him and say, Lion.

And everybody disappeared. Such a husband, such a husband, Abigail had. Harsh and mean.

Of course, as you read, as I just checked this, I saw that thinking that what has been, but what has been planted in the heart of man, the heart of the husband, of course, because of his own position, is that, is to rule the woman. But we understand that this is a curse. We understand that this is not God, it's not what God would have us.

So, we saw that the Lord Jesus Christ said, yes, those who, who rule over the Gentiles, those who are, are called to lead the Gentiles, they rule over them, they are harsh, but the phrase that I wanted us to see as we go on is that he said, but for you, it shall not be so. For you, it shall not be so. So, I wanted us to note that for us, as Christians, our leadership must be very, very different.

It is because I am, I am praying that whatever has been planted in our heart, whether it be by culture, whether it be by experience even in our homes, whether it be by whatever, or most largely the human nature, the fallen nature, which just makes the husband think that what I needed to do is to rule over my, my wife and the home. What makes the most husbands like a nabba who was simply harsh and mean in the home. We pray that as we go through this meeting, the Lord will, will change our style of leadership in the name of Jesus.

It will be providing Christ-like leadership over our home. And so I would want us now to look at Ephesians chapter 5. I just wanted, I'm jumping several things, I would have said as I studied another kind of husbands that apart from those that I was going to call the sovereign husbands, those who just lord, lord over their wives, those who think it is even, it is correct just to lord over the wife, to rule over her, there are others that they are completely unavailable. As I was checking husbands, I saw two groups.

Those that are harsh and another group can be those that are unavailable. Brahma was showing us somebody like Elkanah. Elkanah and several husbands that we can isolate in the Bible were simply unavailable to their wives.

It did say that Elkanah, you know, he was the one who who caused all the problems that Hannah had, had a problem in the home, he was the one who caused it. But by the time Hannah prayed and something happened, the greatest thing that happened in the house and in the life of Elkanah, when the wife went and asked him, what do I do with somewhere? I was very surprised that Elkanah told Hannah that do whatever you want. Do whatever you want with him.

Just do what you want. There are, as we read scriptures, there are husbands like that. Because they just even don't know what God will have them to do.

Because they are pursuing different things. They cannot lead this woman. The woman is left to struggle for her own, for leadership, for decisions and all that.

If we had time, I was going to show us such husbands in the Bible praying that for us, it shall not be so. But as we look at the book of Ephesians, I saw a very wonderful role, leadership role that God expected us as husbands to play. And I was trying to study that and as we did study it, actually before, we took quite some time back here, sometimes back to study that.

And when I picked along sometimes back the dignity of manhood to read and I saw how to be a real husband, sincerely speaking, I began to tremble. I began to tremble because the kind of thing that God placed on the husband, I we are going to be praying together that I saw that God has placed such called for a husband and placed such responsibility over his life, leadership responsibility in order for him to accomplish with the home what he designed marriage to be that when I began to read it, I just, I just prayed I saw God. There was one night I was reading that book and I turned, I saw my wife, she was sleeping and I was reading the book and I was reading that chapter.

I, for the first time, I wish that I were a wife and not a husband. I looked at her and said, God, she is very lucky. I just was discovering that, sincerely speaking, if the husband is correct, it will be very, very, very, very difficult for the wife to be wrong.

Let me say husbands, I am convinced that most of the problems in the home are caused by husbands, either ignorantly or knowingly. When I read that book and finished that chapter, I just saw that if I be correct, my wife will go to heaven. Husbands, I am that fully persuaded that if we study these materials, if we wait on the Lord to provide Christlike leadership in the home, by the positioning of the husband, I'm trying to call a percentage of the problem that we finish in the home.

Who has such a percentage in heart? I was going to say 70, but maybe one husband understands it more than me. Sincerely speaking, if we provide Christlike leadership in the home, the greatest problem in the home that will be solved. Was anybody going to help me to put a percentage? 55? 75? Okay.

My brother says 75. Problems in the home, they will be solved. Even though we are not going to be able to even review all that, even this book has spelt out as the leadership responsibility that we should bear in the home.

But I'm saying, I am praying that you will read it and God helping us as he has come to us because God has come. And the way God is speaking to us, I see that he has come to help us. And he will help, if he's going to help the home, he will help the husband first.

Do you agree with me? Ephesians chapter 5. We read from verse 20, 23. As you will see from the portion of Ephesians that we read, you will agree that God likened the responsibility of the husband to his home, to those of Christ, to the church. And that became the first thing that struck me, that God has called us to be like Christ.

The ultimate that God has called each and every one of us is to be like Christ. But as I read through this portion, what came to my heart sometimes back when I read it is that I was seeing a picture of the fact that even though God would have everyone to be like Christ, but God seems to have done something to have stepped it down for the wife. That if the husband is like Christ, then it will be much, much easier for the wife to become like Jesus.

That God will have the wife practically to see and to experience what God wants her to be and in the husband and that if the husband God achieves the fact of the husband being like Jesus, then it will be much, much, it will be easy. The wife won't struggle to be like Christ. I saw that he just stepped it down for the wife.

So all the responsibilities as you read verse 23, you read other verses that God began to liken the responsibility of a husband to his home, to his wife, to the children, to those of Christ, to the church. And so let me just highlight them. Those leadership responsibilities that Christ would have us to provide to the wife, to the home, that it will make it very easy for the wife to follow, for the wife to grow, for the wife to become like Jesus himself.

Verse 23 where we started reading, it said for the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church and he is the savior of the body. So the first responsibility, leadership responsibility that God expects a husband to provide is that he should be the head of his wife. And the yardstick, and that's what made me afraid, if it's just to be the head, yes, not the head of just ruling as those husbands we tried to point out.

To be the head like Christ is the head of the church. So the yardstick, the standard of all the leadership responsibility that a husband must bear in the home, brethren, the standard is Jesus Christ. The yardstick is the Lord Jesus.

That's what makes it so high. That's what makes it something that we must continually just pray. That's what makes it that as husbands, we may just kneel down before our wives today to lay hands on us and pray for us because what God expects us to be and is insisting to be and what he will achieve with us to be is nothing else than the standard of the Lord Jesus Christ.

As we were studying in my group in the Bible study, somebody, one of us made a statement that touched me. When we read all the scriptures and we began to ask, to discuss, he stood up and said, if this thing is not possible, God would not have said it should happen to us. That becoming one flesh as we're studying is possible.

It's possible, brethren, that our growing in our leadership responsibility as husbands has a yardstick. It's not a vitra at all. And if we keep this in view that it's not to be done anyhow, it's not to be copied from the culture, it's not as the society detects as was the cause that God placed on man.

It was not as is published in all the languages that we should just rule over our wives, which would be what I called sovereign husbands, lordship husbands, but that the yardstick is the Lord Jesus. So number one, we saw that the husband is to be head of the wife. Verse 25, say husband, love your wife, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it.

That's another form of leadership responsibility to the wife that the husband is asked to bear in the home. If we go along with notes that verse 29 that we read say, for no man ever yet hated his own flesh but nourished it and cherished it even as the Lord the church. So another leadership that we are to provide, leadership responsibility that we are to provide in the home is to nourish and cherish the wife.

Verse 30, say for we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. And we are studying that becoming one flesh, the husband bearing the responsibility, being the one to live in order to cleave, to lead to the fact that this thing that we are saying is not arbitra. We are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

We are studying that and therefore I won't feel, I just know that it's covered. I just wanted to very quickly in the time that is remaining to look at the fact that the husband is the wife, is the head of the wife. I said I knew I wouldn't go very far but I will beg that we study this.

The one hour few minutes that we had could never have allowed us to go beyond this. Husband is the head of his wife and we are saying it's lacking to Christ as being the head of the church. Verse 23 that we read together.

A husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of his church. Praise the Lord. And that's the very immediate role that we must play.

I don't think there is any husband who who doesn't know that is the head of the wife. And every husband enjoys hearing that is the head of the wife. Isn't it? Husbands until we we lack a certain need but we are hearing the Bible says as as even as Christ is the head of the church and is a saviour thereby the saviour of the body.

So it is to be like Christ. So if we just think very small that the husband is the head of the wife what does that mean? When I saw the other thing that reading that came to me is that if we read I think it's 1 Corinthians chapter 11 and verse 3 that put it in a perspective 1 Corinthians 11 and verse 3 But I would have you to know that the head of every man is Christ and the head of the woman is the man and the head of Christ is God. There is an order there but what struck my heart and broke the challenge the first challenge for me of the husband being the head of the wife and I know quietly in my heart that I am the head of the wife of my wife but what made me afraid what brought me the first challenge is that when you say and Christ is the head of every man and I start thinking I have no problem to know that Christ is my head but I now began to see the gap between me and Christ I know that Christ is my head and the gap between me and Christ I can't describe it it is very very far in everything then I turned and saw that I am the head of my wife and I was asking so what's the gap between me and the wife now in order to lead her it's very small perhaps I found that as a challenge of what God is expecting of me expecting of the husband the leadership gap the leadership gap God creates it He actually wants us to create to note it and if we press into it if we create it actually the leadership gap I saw the gap between me and Christ He lacks nothing in leading me but my challenge is what leadership gap have I received from the Lord between me and my wife it ought to be there I want us to look at very briefly the fact that the head is placed on top of the body we are looking at the human head we are just considering the human head as it's placed on top of the body it is the highest the highest point of the body the head, the human head the fact of our being the head of our wives and God is lacking it to the human head and that it is placed highest on the body it coordinates all the the parts of the body it is whatever happens in the body, the head coordinates it we noted that the head also is the one that carries the very special organs special sense organs they are placed in the head of course the head gives gives the identity to the rest of the body if you cut someone's head in fact, if you cut people's heads and you take it away even their closest friends may never know who they are and the Bible said we are the head of the, of our wives the head is so important so very important that when something happens to the head doesn't something happen to the whole body we had had, we had an experience when I was in secondary school I will not call the name of the person because some of us will know him but we're playing long tennis no, table tennis this young man was playing table tennis with the seniors in a school where seniority was very serious so, he defeated a senior and was excited he was happy that he beat a senior in table tennis and he was shaking hands with his mates and they were cheering him the senior just took a stick and rushed at him and hit him in the head he fell down that boy had to be taken to the psychiatric hospital and he stayed there for over a year he just got he just got, when he stood up he did he did a circle like this and landed down again it was not any other part of the body that was hit but the legs and the hand and everything lost balance that's why I saw the husband sincerely speaking, if something goes wrong and whatever is wrong in the body first of all is to be traced to the head therefore we needed to note that our being the head of the body of the wife has very profound implications if something goes wrong where the husband is most likely that for the wife to gain balance is very, very, very difficult several things will be retarded several things will not move we see husbands that even in scriptures, when something went wrong with them it was difficult for the wife we are noting that God has placed the husband in the, higher than the wife and this is because that the flow from God, the flow of authority the flow of whatever will come to the wife will flow very easily because the head is placed higher the flow of authority and that is positioned by God that actually must be allowed that must be what we be operating but if a husband is not placed higher in anything than the wife then you see the problem a brother was, Emmanuel was telling us of people of Elkanah and Hana you will agree that if we talk of prayer it is Hana that is prayerful in that home, isn't it? it's Hana but you see something happen of authority of Elkanah that would have shown I saw that when Hana was to to bring forth a baby a kind of a head did something Eli was not a husband but somehow he was a spiritual head and when Hana prayed and Eli just went there and Eli said why are you like this? I don't want drunkards in the temple Hana said no, no, no, no I'm not a drunkard and Hana said look your handmaid and he begged that man the man just said go in peace God bless you do you know that Hana took him? Hana took him the head is placed high so that collection will be very easily because we are head each husband must receive from God and develop because we have just noted that all the senses are there so do you see that the husband collect all the senses of sight, of hearing, of feeling, of tasting for the wife if his own senses are not developed the wife is in trouble he cannot feel, he cannot the home will be blind so a lot of struggles in homes are as a result of the fact that their spiritual senses spiritual their senses of the husband they are not developed so the home is blinded it's not hearing, it's not feeling and as we noted we noted that we saw that the head also offers identity the husband is the identity of the identity of the wife is in the husband do you know that even when women divorce their husbands in many cases they maintain their names do you know that when they separate they still maintain the name of the husband they want an identity the control of the whole body is in the head but we have noted that the head controls the whole body very quietly very silently it's not by shouting in fact when the head is shouting it shows something wrong if you see somebody going in the street and his mouth it says hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey don't you think there is something wrong with that man a husband, if you are controlling him by shouting in the house it simply says that simply means something had knocked that head and that head is just shouting natural head they control without shouting that's the head as my hand is doing like this did you see my head shout and say hand, do like this did you hear that the head simply spoke without you hearing and my hand went up this flow of life this control the flow of life of the husband from God is simply the control that will make followership very easy I want to pray that God will help us as husbands God has placed us as heads we are going to pray that we will be the correct head ah the correct head a normal head a normal head simply have eyes simply have ears simply have the nose simply have the, the what the hearing simply has that I want you to note that if we are pure to God it is very very normal for the head to have that as we pray together this evening we will appreciate our wives because if the body is not there will the head be up ah we will appreciate our wives, they are there that's why we are heads if they were not there as the body, the head would never have been taken up and we will seek for their their growth spiritually emotionally, physically in every way so that our head will keep rising, will keep growing will keep having height so even though we may not go ahead to look at the other way, the other leadership responsibilities but as we read in the scriptures there are many we will pray the Lord that we will be correct husbands nourishing our wives leading our wives and eh making sure that our rulership, our leadership is Christ like our being head we must not be a mad head Christ was never a mad head to the church I wanted us to pray as husbands that we will be like Christ we will be like Christ we will be heads that are like Jesus but I want you to note that it's just very natural for those for the head to be at the sense organs so everyone that is a husband there is a potential if we turn to the Lord if we feed well if we don't misuse our senses if we turn to Him and ask Father I must see for my wife I must hear for my wife I must feel for my wife I must taste for my wife I must cognate the home if we pray as God will have us to do He has come to say He will make us husbands that we should be our wives you will pray for us don't be just a very silent listener this is what our husbands are to do for us God will make them capable of doing it
