Norman Grubb teaches that humans are spirit beings called to live as transparent 'see-throughers' reflecting God's unity rather than as separated 'see-atters' focused on material appearances.
In this teaching sermon, Norman Grubb explores the profound truth that humans are essentially spirit beings created by God. He challenges listeners to move beyond a materialistic view of life and embrace their identity as 'see-throughers' who perceive spiritual reality and unity. Drawing on scripture and personal insights, Grubb reveals how understanding our spirit nature brings clarity, purpose, and a deeper connection with God. This message encourages believers to live transparently as reflections of God's oneness in a divided world.

Just a word again, thank you Lord. We've been thanking, praising, recognizing your living self, your living presence here. Of course you're here, you're here all this week, every hour in different ways you've been speaking, moving, working in our hearts, and you've been giving us listening ears and obedient hearts too.
So we thank you for your gracious working in our midst, beginning and throughout this whole week, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. Well the, um, you friends in the, um, council ring have given me the privilege of, uh, sharing some of these daily sessions with Alberta and yourselves, and, um, I'm very thankful for that privilege.
It might be good, perhaps, if you, um, bear with me, if I, um, start this being the first time I've be talking with you, uh, in giving a little, uh, background, uh, leading on to why I hope to, uh, talk as I do these days. Um, I was a, uh, witness for Christ, sought to be, uh, as a young man in the British Army in World War I, and towards the end of the war when I was in wounded hospital, um, I got a very plain call from God to join a higher army, to join the army of Jesus Christ in taking Christ to people who'd highest honor to be in the front line for Jesus Christ, which was to go where Christ had never been named. And so that was the next stage in my, uh, life's activities.
Um, I had a, um, period first in the university in England, and, um, there was a, um, work of witness going on there too, uh, and we were privileged to see something happen then, which is, um, spread out through the world, um, as we began to witness among the students ourselves. Um, we had the vision that there should be, uh, some center of student witness, uh, and means by which students could be built up in the road of God, and all the universities and colleges in the world. And so we put on the first, what we then called Intervarsity Conference, which became the Intervarsity Fellowship, and has spread now throughout the world, some of you will know of it as the IVCF, with its, uh, student witness centers, um, in every land.
So it's been a, was a thrill to be in something at the beginning of that. I then went out, uh, to join the man who, um, uh, had a great influence on my life. He was a very famous Englishman, because he was England's greatest cricketer.
But at the call of God, he gave up his, um, cricket activities, also to take Christ to those who never heard of him. First in China, then in India, and finally in Africa. And he was in the center of Africa, and I joined him, and learned little of what a wholly abandoned life meant, which had a great effect on me.
I was there about, um, 10 years, uh, in the, um, Belgian Congo, as we then called it. Then I came known as the Congo, and now it's named, named, yes, it got another name, even another name called Zaire. Um, we were in the very primitive part, this was 50 years ago.
Um, in most cases, we were the first white person they'd seen. Of course, they'd never seen anything like written language, or, um, uh, had anything except their own simple primitive customs. And so I worked among them, and, um, spent some years, uh, translating the New Testament, and considerable portions of the Old Testament into what we found was a tribal language, a market language in between the tribes, therefore had a wider outreach than a simple tribal language.
And, um, that has now been adopted by the Congo government as the language for the whole North Congo. So there are many millions who use it now, and, um, uh, it was a word of God into writing for them. Um, I came back after 10 years, and, um, was at the, um, British home base of this, uh, missionary group whose commission was to take gospel to any parts of the world where Christ had not been named.
Uh, and so we began to spread the gospel to many lands. And, um, all these years since, up to recently, I've been engaged in helping to, uh, get the Christian witness into all the lands of the world. Um, I retired from that direct activity about five or six years ago.
Uh, so that's all by way of a background. Um, but there is a, um, a background which is, uh, more to the point, uh, this evening and through these coming days to which I wish to refer, um, um, because it's, uh, centered on that. I shall be speaking these days.
Um, I suppose the Spirit of God leads different ones of us in different directions. Um, but I was always concerned to find a, uh, a fuller meaning to life, a fuller understanding uh, of what the gospel is, what the message, what I was, what I was taking to other people, what I had myself. Uh, I had felt I had some partial understanding.
I needed something nearer, a total understanding, as a bold you were to use. We should find whatever we had down here was only dipping a toe in the water when we get up there. But something could be something nearer to a total understanding on earth.
So, um, back behind, uh, my calling, I was always digging and investigating, uh, uh, for something which, which would be more complete to me. Um, I've always had the Bible as, uh, my basis. I took a stand in my university days, uh, that this is where my, my, my, my feet were planted, and this is the world I believe to be God's revealed word.
And I, uh, stand there as much today as I did in those earlier days. So I seek and hope that all we talk about is, uh, at least some further understanding, interpretation of what's already been revealed to us, uh, in God's written word. Um, same time, uh, I have dug around, uh, where I found I could find, find help.
Um, I got great help through great mystics, known perhaps to a few of you, not known perhaps to many of you, the great Catholic mystics, Santa Teresa, John of the Cross, John of Rosebook, Henry Souza, Meister Eckhart, these great men who'd moved into a, um, a conscious union with God. I felt they'd reached a point, and they were coming down to tell us about this point they reached. I was watching all the time, following along with them as best I could.
So I sought with them, um, I had great understanding of some other great men. Uh, one, I suppose, was, would, uh, go on to be a mystic. To me, the greatest of all, that was a German cobbler, Jacob Boehmer.
I learned more from his writings than all the rest of the books put together. Tremendous insights, uh, into the meaning and being of God and man, right to the very depths of things. It was tremendous when my eyes became open to what he was presenting.
Uh, and his chief interpreter was an Englishman named William Long. Some, a few of you may know some of those books. So, um, I was soaking in from, uh, those, uh, channels of light, um, others more recent, um, many unorthodox.
I've always got much more out of the unorthodox than the orthodox, because they all start sticking to it already, and the unorthodox trying to find something new, which always encourages me. So most of my sources have been the unorthodox. Uh, different books.
A little book came into my hands, some of you will know, I think, in Camp Arleside years ago, Christ in You, picked it up in England 40 years ago. Great insights, still being printed, I see. Uh, a writer that has, uh, gone out of print almost entirely, yet to my mind he's tremendous, Walter Lanyon.
He was an Englishman who came and lived in America, whether wisely or unwisely, I leave that to others to say, um, and, uh, died over here. He's now also an artist. Wrote about 40 books, but apparently disappeared, except about two of them.
Nice. Streams of light flow from him. Um, Thomas Howard, Judge Howard, uh, Troubert, Troubert, I've got great insights from him on so many books.
Um, one or two of the great minds of the day, I go tremendous off that powerful writer Kierkegaard, the Dane, so in Kierkegaard, he stretches your mind and spirit. Tremendous. Fortunately he's translated into English, or I couldn't reach the Danish.
Um, and, uh, uh, Karl Barth, there's no commentary I've ever read equal to Karl Barth on Romans, so different, each of us taking different ways, we should build a little more, get a little more, comes into us. Um, so those are some of my, my back backgrounds, um, and on the, um, basis of what I'm, um, seeking to share with you, insofar as I'm participating in these sessions, um, that raises, um, some further need of explanation, perhaps, and that is, uh, I never had the gift of being a public speaker, um, mysteries don't work that way usually, um, and, um, I'm a layman, I have no backgrounds in official way of Bible training or theological, none of that, um, I prefer really sitting down sharing with people, but that's not so possible in a larger audience, um, therefore I'm not attempting to give what are officially called messages, I suppose, I don't know, God bless those who give them, but they haven't come my way. Uh, all I can do is to begin, uh, to explain when I finish, six hours later on, when I've had my last talk, so it's a continuous record, um, and we merely go a little distance and break off and pick up again next time.
Um, it's a wonderful audience here this, this, uh, evening, it's thrilling to see so many of you young people, uh, I'm not sure of the situation, I rather think that you won't be with us for the further sessions, uh, you have something, uh, that can keep you awake a little better maybe, um, uh, so it, it doesn't make it, uh, maybe, uh, very helpful, helpful for you tonight, because I shall only be giving a little tiny bit and then dropping it and you thrown away, I suppose, but I'm thrilled to see you here, knowing a wonderful day, what Spirit of God's doing among you young people, you know, when I was, when I was your age, I'd be as dull as ditch water on spiritual things, I'm amazed at the life, the keen, uh, insight, understanding, response, uh, investigation by young people today, uh, I usually find it's the old people getting dull and sleepy, the young people on the ball, so there's nothing I like so much as what we call rap sessions, when you give and take, and, but that's not going to be my fortune with you, I think, um, so that's that, um, therefore I have to start, uh, just at the beginning for just a short while tonight, um, one or two things maybe I ought to add, uh, I have the, um, disease of being a quick, a quick talker, and you have the worst disease of being slow hearers, so between the two, we get into trouble, people always complain they can't, they can't, that I speak too quickly, I say listen, listen more quickly yourself, it's your fault, they don't listen to me when I say that, um, secondly, most of you, I've never learned to listen, to hear proper English, so, uh, you, uh, have a little difficulty that way, and guess, better guess, get our best we can, all right then, uh, generally speaking, I suppose, um, what I'm going to dig into, consider with you, uh, could be put under the three headings, what is life, if I know what life is, how do I live it, uh, if I know how to, how to live it, why do I live it, just about that, uh, what, what is it to be a person, the psalmist asked that, oh, well, what is man, what is, what is a person, perhaps if I give a, um, a foundational, uh, scripture to these, these talks, it's what, uh, the letter, George wrote in his letter, perhaps it, now are we the sons of God, what is it to be a son of God, now are we the sons of God, we have to start at the beginning, the basis, you can't put a superstructure until you've got a foundation, foundations are the duller part of it, the necessary part for you to build a superstructure, so let's start there, so we're doing, so just, um, for a few minutes, this, this evening, as a start, I'm saying this to start with, um, uh, we humans are spirit people, not matter people, we're spirit people, not matter people, but we function as if we're matter people, that's our problem, by matter people I mean we're outwardly related to things and people, life is handling situations, things and people, on a separated basis, now the illusion of life is separation, the truth of life is unity, spirit is unity, matter separation, that's our problem, and, uh, we are spirit people, not matter people, we're spirit people who fall into a matter condition, and we have to learn how to function as spirit people in matter situations, and some more of the spirit coming through us, so we want to start back there, the bible says that God fathers our spirits, in hebrews 12, he fathers our spirits, he created our souls and body, but he fathers the spirit, in other words, uh, the human spirit is the human self, that's, that's your real self, the bible term usually for the real self is spirit, for instance, um, paul defines the human spirit, us, he says this in, uh, 1 corinthians 2, um, what man knows the things of a man, so the spirit of man which is in him, what man knows the things of a man, so the spirit of man which is in him, so that in you which says I know is your spirit, but that's you, I know is you, so you, spirit, I know, I desire, I will, that's you, that's spirit, that's your real self, what's the bible say about us if we die out of, if we die in christ, the bible says if we die in christ before we get the resurrection body, we're spirits of just men made perfect, that's in hebrews 12, that's to say, we're spirits justified through christ, perfected in christ, spirits, that's our real self, the remainder has slipped off us for the time being, so we don't, we, we, we don't, we begin to understand ourselves, we are in ourselves, expressed in outer forms, in ourselves, everything, everything, uh, about us, issues are in ourself, what's the bible say, we are, if we die out of christ, spirits in prison, always spirits, because spirit's the real self, now the, the simple significant fact about, uh, uh, you and I as a spirit, I'm indefinable, I just, I am, I'm indescribable, I'm incommunicable, I'm just, as I am, or I am, now in order to become, in order to, uh, to, to be, uh, be communicable, I have to have a form, so my spirit is encased in a form, which is our soul, my soul and my body, so a spirit expresses itself through an outer form, the bible says I pray god your whole spirit and soul and body, so that's a tripartite, uh, our preserved blameless, uh, we won't go in detail into, uh, the definitions much beyond that tomorrow, except the soul is the reasons and the emotions, I desire, I must have a means by which I express my desire, that's my emotions, that's my soul, uh, I came to know something, I must have a reason, a means by which I express my knowledge, that's my reasons, so my soul level is my reason and my emotion, then that comes out to my outer physical, so I'm an inner person expressed in outer form, there's a very obvious evidence of that, I meet you for the first time, you meet me, you meet me, I don't go and say I met a body named Tom, or a body named Jay, I say I met a person named Tom, because I didn't meet a body, I met a person through a body, I caught a little of what you are through your body, you caught a little of what I am through my body, so you see, uh, we're really see-throughers, not see-atters, that's where, that's where we fall into pieces, we become see-atters, that's our trouble, life is in focus when we become see-throughers, in every situation, it's not see-atters, see-atters is matter people, see-throughers is spirit people, so even when we live as matter people mainly, we've, a little bit about us is always a see-througher, because even when we meet each other, we're seeing through a little bit, now, um, that leads us back of course, uh, to the fact of supreme importance, uh, we are, we are derived selves, we are created selves, but the bible says, uh, thee, thee self is spirit, God is spirit, now Jesus said something, Jesus said that, Jesus said something when he said that, he didn't say that to some great theologian, he said it to women of the world, women of Australia, God is spirit, so this, this, this living person in the universe is spirit, uh, and, uh, here we move, we move back, uh, to, um, the, the one person that is in the universe, there is only one person in the universe, there is only one person in the universe, that original I am spirit, that's all there is, in the beginning God, that's all there is, that's all there is, every single thing there is, God, good, evil, whatever it is, there's some manifestation of that one, that's all there is, in the beginning God, spirit, now, spirit, if he's a manifestation himself, must have his means of manifestation, the whole universe is his manifestation, you see, we've got so far away from God, because we've fallen into this separated outlook, that we even put God as separation, we took a God up here or something, that's a, um, an illusion which has come out of our fallen outlook, um, the, the truth is, uh, this one is the only one in the universe, the only one in the universe, the I am of the universe, the whole universe, in any form, is some form of him, that's why you have your universe in focus, you have yourself in focus, you have everything in focus, devil and all, when your I is single, as Jesus said, if your I is single, your whole body's full of light, if your I is evil, your body's full of darkness, but the opposite to single isn't evil, the opposite of single is double, why evil, because evil is double, but you shouldn't see single, and that's exactly why we're always getting messed up, we're seeing double, you don't get to life by seeing God and devil, two powers, you, you get, you, you get into focus, the devil's just an agency of God, that's all, that's all, anyone, anyone, the whole universe is one, and the whole universe is his means of manifestation, uh, what did Paul say to the, uh, non-Christians, what we call gentiles, he says, everybody's without excuse, because there's something in them which can, which can, can, uh, which can convince them that the, the visible things present to us the invisible person, so the invisible, Romans 1, the invisible things manifest to us his eternal power and Godhead. The prophet said this, speaking of, speaking of the living God, I feel heaven and earth, if he feels heaven and earth, he's within, not without them, he feels heaven and earth. What's the final statement made about him and in relation to his universe? Uh, it's a fact now when you arise to see it, because there's no past or future with God, it's just present, it's spoken, in a sense, in, in, in, in future terms, but I'm now quoting it, uh, in 1 Corinthians 15, uh, the time in which, the time is spoken of when the last enemy, enemy has been destroyed, which is death, when the last enemy has been destroyed, which is death, you read this, uh, then shall the son render up the kingdom to the father, that God may be all in all, he is now that, God all, if God's all isn't, isn't some, God's all, everything is a form of God if God's all, all in all, means he who is the all, in all his forms of manifestation, the one who is the all, expressed in all his outer forms of all, is his God, all in all, in a sense, you're a tiny all in all, you're a little all inside you, a manifestation of outer all, you're an all in all, a little one, uh, I'm saying a big thing, uh, it may take time either to accept it or, or, or, or, move into the, into the awareness of it, him, him as the all, uh, because as I say, we have a localized concept of God, we've got a localized concept of people, you're not localized, you move out, your mind moves out in a second, we connect with each other because Spirit's touching Spirit, Paul said this when he wrote to the Corinthians, he wrote to them, we're going to have some conferences about things, he said, we're going to be together with my Spirit, so the human Spirit stretches out, it's a little concept of the outgoing, you see, the facts, the facts of the heavenly dimension are so different from ours here, you think that the Bible says this, it's also a fact, no, you see it, he says, in the end, in Ephesians 1, in the, in the, in the, in the conclusion of all things, he had gathered together in one all things in Christ, not Christ in the universe, the universe in Christ, whole universe in Christ, that doesn't make sense to our minds, does it, the whole universe in the person, that's Spirit, and if we're the body of Christ, in us, so the whole universe is in us, not we in it, different, uh, uh, stretchings of our concepts, it's, it's, it's, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh Now this is the only, this is the being of God.
God is like, the being of God, God is for others and has no other meaning to life. His existence is for others. He exists, his fulfillment is when he may fulfill the needs of other people.
What happens to him is the point. God has not one hour to have self-interested in himself. Only out from himself for others.
That's love. It's going to be very significant as we continue a little longer. The, um, the final symbol in the Bible, uh, given to this living person on the throne, very striking.
Twenty times over in the book of Revelation it's called him the lamb. It's very strange to call almighty God a little lamb, isn't it? Some contrast between almighty God and little lamb, isn't it? Till we see the meaning of the symbol. A human, an earthly lamb is the most, most helpless, helpless, helpless creature there is.
It has neither teeth nor claws. You can do what you like in it, to it. If you want to kill it, kill it.
If you want to eat it, eat it. If you want to shear it, shear it. It's just available.
A little earthly lamb is helplessly available. God is purposefully available. That's the difference.
God means to be available because he's loved. He means to be only for others. That's all he is.
That's all he is. That's why the universe is safe. That's why the universe is safe.
All through human history, peoples have never been safe because being governed by self-interest, if we have power, we use it for our own ends. And kings, rulers, governors through the history of humanity are capitalists and so on. They use what they've got, not for the benefit of their people, but make people for their benefit.
They don't live for the fulfilment of the needs of those they control. They make those who they control exist for their fulfilment. And the whole world's always chaos, always going into disturbance and rebellion because of this selfish system which makes my self-interest pre-eminent.
A tremendous fact about God is, it isn't the universe of God is God for universe. He's safe God. He is for universe.
If he was to die for his universe, he'll die, which is what happened. If there's a man, we'll kill him, we kill him. If we live by feeding on him, the symbols of the holy communion, we feed on him.
A little later on we become coal lambs, other people feed on us, that's better still. But this is the foundation of the universe. A living person exists only to fulfil and complete and be blessed in a total fashion in his universe.
If his universe can be fulfilled, blessed, completed, he's fulfilled, blessed and completed. That's a person who's loved. That's the one person in the universe.
Well, I won't go on very much longer. I don't think this is registering very much with you. It may take a little time, so maybe by Friday it will do.
I warn you, it's tough. I expect Alberto will wake you up, but I'll put you to sleep. But I tell you, these things are foundational.
When you get these things into focus, you've got life into focus, that's why. So I'm not fooling around saying them, because they're real. Because we've got mistaken ideas of God.
We've got mistaken concepts of God. We've put God in terms of our separated outlook. We've lost the spirit unified outlook.
We've got to move back to who we really are. Well, I'll take you one further step. What was the first revealed revelation of God's self-manifestation? This one person coming out of manifestation, the spirit coming out of manifestation, the begetting of his own son.
The begetting of his own son, the only begotten son. You see, nothing can be in manifested action unless it's a trinity. The whole universe is a trinity because God is a trinity.
There has to be a trinity. You act by being a trinity. Inside, your trinity is, you first think.
That's your father level. Then you move down and you speak a word, a decisive word, that's your son level. You come into a decisive word.
Then from the son comes out the production. I go and do this, I go and do that, that's spirit level. It's a trinity.
Manifestation can only come by trinity. You can't have a tree unless it first has a sap, which is the father level. It must have the trunk and branches, which is the son level.
And then out come the leaves, fruits and flowers, which is the reproducing level. Father, son, spirit. Because the whole world's a trinity.
Height, length, breadth. Past, present, future and so on. So here's the beginning of the trinity.
This being coming, manifesting himself. So began a son. Now I won't go much farther than to just say one word or a little more about the son and his function, because we're going to move on to where we're sons.
That's what we're talking about, where we're sons. Now are we sons of God? We'll move you on to that. What's the purpose of having a son? Why must this almighty person, this universal person, have a son? Because you can't know the universe except by a particular form, that's why.
You cannot know the universe except by a particular form. You don't know what electricity is, but you know what light, heat and power are. Oh, that's what electricity is.
When it comes out in a form like light, heat, oh, that's what electricity is. You know the universe except by a particular form. You don't know what an atom is.
You may guess, but you don't know. I know what tables and chairs are. Oh, that's an atom in form.
It comes out in forms. Oh, it's a power, an essential power, which makes things. And here, these are manifestations of the essential power.
Now we're moving, on the material level, we're moving down to the bottom, we're touching the essential power, we're going through the outer forms, the essential power, touching the atom, we're touching the essential power. When you go beyond the essential power to the spirit, you get the essential power. And when we invite everything in the form of spirit, you get there.
This is how Jesus, all of them operate on that level. The truth is spirit, and out from spirit came manifestation. So, you can't know the universe except by a particular.
That's why you can't know the father except through the son. You only know God as the living, the universal person, as the living father, because he came out in son form. And the son is manifested to us as a person, the person of the Lord Jesus Christ.
As you know the person of the Lord Jesus Christ as your saviour, as what he is, the son manifests as father. He's his father, he's my father. So, you'll never find the people who don't know the Lord Jesus Christ, know God as a person.
Where are the religions who haven't got Christ, haven't got the God in person? Because it's the son who introduces us to the father as a person. So, through a particular form you know a universal fact, or person in this case. The other purpose of a son, this much I'll mention anyhow, the other purpose of a son is this.
No founder of a great firm can develop the firm, it's too much for him. Somebody founds a great firm, he then has a second generation, he has the sons or executives who take up his resources and abilities and expand his firm worldwide. I can't afford one, two, three kind of thing.
So you start with a founder, then he has another level of people through whom he comes out as an expanded business. That's by the son God manifests himself through the universe. His son is the means by which he comes out in particular forms.
That's where we come a little later on as sons. So the son is the one by whom the father comes out, as I say, in specific forms. That's why the son is called by a very strange word.
He's called by word. It's a very strange thing to call a person by word, why that? Jesus Christ, God's son, is called by word. In the beginning he was the word.
John 1, the word was with God and the word was God. Why word? Because a word is a person in action. Until you know how to use your word, you aren't a safe son.
Until you know how to operate your word, you aren't a real person. Because you function by word, a word is a person in action. You didn't come here to this camp by your automobile.
You came here because you said so, that's why. Because inside you said, I'll come, that's why. The general thought became a particular word.
You're in action, we're inner people, we act through our word. Word's our faith, we're committing ourselves to something, then we move into action and the appearance turns up like being here. So, a word's a person in action.
Now this last thing I'm saying, it's interesting to see, very significant, the way this God's son operates his word. This is the word in action, the creator speaking the word. In the beginning he was the word.
What word did he speak in Genesis 1? Let there be. Let there be light, there was light. Let there be animals, let there be vegetation, let there be sun, let there be, let there be, let there be.
Seems a rather feeble word, doesn't it? It isn't like, I do this, do that, it's a sort of quiet word, let there be, let there be, very important. This is the first revelation in history of faith in action. Faith in action is an inner person speaking a word which produces substance.
Why did he use the expression let there be? We don't quickly understand because we've got so far away from God. Because we're in our foreign condition, until we come back again, we've got so far away from God. Our relationship or attitude towards God is here we are down here on earth in needs and difficulties and problems, and here's God up here, and we must call on him to come and meet our need.
So I have to perhaps call on and beseech God to meet our need. If we've got the universe right, the whole is God occurring in the need, and it's God operating and bringing the need into being because there's a surprise there already which is going to fulfill the need. And it isn't a question of us getting God to do it, it's a question of God getting us to let him through.
That's all. It isn't God asleep and we awake, come on God do something about it. It's God's awake and we're asleep.
Everything is God's operation. Our needs and problems are God's problems, he put them there because that's the reason why we should manifest his fulfillments. And the fulfillment is there before the need actually in fact.
And faith just lets him be. Faith is the one who says thanks God you're doing it, that's all. So when faith is sweated off being, when faith is eased on being.
So we learn the first operation of faith. Now I'm stopping right, my feeling is you're getting nothing. But I must go on, perhaps we divide it tomorrow, if I've got you young people I'm going to do something about it, but I think, I must go on because I've got to, but I don't think we're getting there yet.
But I tell you it's tremendous, until you get your foundations you won't get your superstructure. You won't. So we must leave it at that, and the Lord bless you, and you young people going elsewhere forget it, and start again tomorrow morning.
You older people perhaps will get round it and see if we can get somewhere tomorrow. Thank you.
