BGU III. 830 .21 (i/A.D.) ἐπὶ γὰρ καὶ γείτων αὐτοῦ εἰ [μ ]ί , P Oxy X. 1272 .14 (A.D. 144) ὑπόνοιαν οὖν κατὰ [τ ]ῶν γειτόνων μου , having some suspicion against my neighbours (Edd.). The adj. is very common in descriptions of locality, e. g. P Par 5 i. 8 (B.C. 114) τὸν εἰς Τάγην οἶκον . . . οὗ γείτονες· νότου οἰκία Ἁρπαήσιος , βορρᾶ ψιλοὶ τόποι κτλ ., P Oxy I. 99 .7 (A.D. 55) γείτονες τῆς ὅλη [ς οἰκίας , νότου ] καὶ ἀπηλιώτο [υ ] δημόσιαι ῥῦμαι , X. 1276 .8 (A.D. 249) τῆς δὲ ὅλης γείτονες νότου ῥύμη τυφλή , the adjacent areas of the whole are on the south a blind street (Edd.). Γειτνία and γειτνιάω are used in a similar way P Tebt I. 14 .10 (B.C. 114) γειτνίας , adjoining areas, ib. 105 .19 (B.C. 103) πλὴν τῆς γειτνιώσης τῆι Θοῶνιος , except that which adjoins the land of Thoφnis, P Saο d Khan 2 a. .8 (B.C. 22) ὅρια καὶ γειτνίαι ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνατολῶν κτλ . This noun may = neighbourhood, as in P Flor III. 319 .5 (A.D. 132 7) ο̣ἱ ἐν γιτνίᾳ μου ὄντες . See also Syll 929 .38 (ii/B.C.) for a verb γειτονέω . In MGr γείτονας = neighbour.
