Ἀβραάμ (Rec.t Ἁβραάμ; cf. Tdf. Proleg., p. 106) (Josephus, Ἄβραμος, ), ΰΗαΐψΘδΘν (father of a multitude, cf. Gen_17:5), Abraham, the renowned founder of the Jewish nation: Mat_1:1; Mat_22:32; Luk_19:9; Joh_8:33; Act_3:25; Heb_7:1 ff, and elsewhere. He is extolled by the apostle Paul as a pattern of faith, Rom_4:1 ff; Rom_4:17 ff; Gal_3:6 (cf. Heb_11:8), on which account all believers in Christ have a claim to the title sons or posterity of Abraham, Gal_3:7; Gal_3:29; cf. Rom_4:11.

For a Grζcised form Ἄβραμος , cf. BGU II. 585 ii. 3 (after A.D. 212) Πααβῶς Ἀβράμου . The non-Grζcized form is common in Fayϋm documents of the Christian period, e.g. BGU I. 103 .11 (vi/vii A.D.) Ἀβραάμ ; see further Deissmann BS , p. 187. A Jew Ἀβράμ [ιος ? is named in BGU II. 715 ii. 2 (Fayϋm A.D. 101 2).
