bleacher, fuller one who cards, cleans, and/or bleaches cloth In MRK 9:3 the reference is obviously to the process of bleaching, but a γναφεύς also was engaged in the cleaning of cloth as well as carding it, a process by which the nap of cloth was somewhat raised and made soft by being combed with bristles.
