An apt parallel to the use of this word in 1Pe_3:7 is afforded by P Oxy II. 261 .12 (A.D. 55) where a woman appoints her grandson to act as her representative in a lawsuit ο̣ὐ̣ δυναμένη προσκαρτερῆσαι τῷ κριτηρίῳ διὰ γυναικείαν ἀσθένειαν , since she is unable owing to womanly weakness to remain at the court (Edd.).
