UBS Dictionary of the Greek New Testament
adjc. | δέκα + τέσσαρες
60.22 · Number · One, Two, Three, Etc. [Cardinals]
fourteen cardinal number, where there are fourteen instances of a countable entity It is possible that δεκατέσσαρες in MAT 1:17 has a symbolic meaning in view of its being equivalent to twice seven. Others have suggested that the number fourteen is derived from the value of the name David based on the numerical values of the consonants in the Hebrew form of the name. This may explain certain of the irregularities in the listing of the generations.
