διάγνωσις [page 147]
For the technical use of this word (= cognitio ) in Wis_3:18 , Act_25:21 , see P Hib I. 93 .10 ( c. B.C. 250) ἡ δια̣γ̣[νωσις περὶ αὐτοῦ ἔσ ]τω πρὸς βασ [ιλικά , decision about his case shall be made with reference to the royal decrees (Edd.). This early instance disposes of Deissmann s statement ( LAE , p. 346 n .2 .) that the word is not found in this sense until the end of ii/A.D., IG XIV. 1072 ἐπὶ . . . διαγνώσεων τοῦ Σεβαστοῦ , a . . . cognitionibus Augusti . P Lond 358 .17 ( c. A.D. 150) (= II. p. 172) τῆς τοῦ λαμπροτάτου ἡ [γε ]μόνος Μουνατίου Φήλικος διαγνώσεως is a little earlier. To the same period belongs PSI I. 103 .16 αἱ δηλωθ [εῖσαι ] ἐπ [ισ ]χέσθ (αι ) ἄχρι τῆς τοῦ κ [ρατίστου ] ἡ [γ ]ε̣μόνος διαγνώσεως , which resembles Ac l.c. especially.
