δι-αλλάσσω: 2 aor. pass. διηλλάγην; (see διά, C. 6); 1. to change: τὶ ἀντί twos [cf. W. 206 (194)]. 2. to change the mind of any one, to reconcile (so fr. [Aeschyi.| Thue. down): τινά τινι. Pass. to be reconciled, τινί, to renew friendship with one: Mt. v. 24; (1 5. xxix. 4; 1 Esdr. iv. 31). See Fritzsche’s learned discussion of this word in his Com. on Rom. vol. i. p. 276 sqq. [in opp. to Tittmann’s view that it implies mutual enmity; see καταλλάσσω, fin.]; cf. Win. De verb. comp. ete. Pt. v. pp. 7,10; [ Tholuck, Bergrede Christi, p.171 (on Mt. v. 24) ].

to change enmity for friendship, to reconcile: pass., c. dat. pers., Mt 5:24. "The word denotes mutual concession after mutual hostility, an idea absent from καταλλ-," q.v. (Lft., Notes, 288; cf. Deiss., LAE, 17815; Cremer, 91, 632).†

διαλλάσσω. With Mt 574 may be compared BGU IIT. 84610 (ii/a.p.) (= Selections, p. 94) παρακα[λ]ῶ σαι, μήτηρ, ὃ [ι]αλάγητί pot, and P Giss I. 17}3 (time of Hadrian) ὥστε διαλλάγηθι ἡμεῖν. Belonging perhaps to the same period as this last is the fragmentary letter in P Par p. 422, 4 ἥως 6 θεῖος (?) σοὶ διαλλαγῇ. For the see BGU IT. 6654-1 (ii/a.p.). The verb is found = ‘‘ change,” “exchange,” OG/S 484?° (ii/A.D.) τοῖς τὸ δηνάριον διαλλάσσειν βου[λ]ομένοι[ς. Note also the middle in Ache! root 14 (Thera, ¢.
