praise act of speaking of the excellence of a person, object, or event In a number of languages praise can only be expressed by direct discourse, and this requires some content which provides the basis for praise. For example, in LUK 2:13 instead of a literal rendering of ‘praising God,’ it may be necessary to have ‘they said, God is wonderful,’ and in LUK 16:8 it may be necessary to translate ‘the master of this dishonest manager said, You are remarkable for having done such a clever thing.’
1 LUK 18:43 · HEB 13:15 The verbs δίδωμι and ἀναφέρω in LUK 18:43 and HEB 13:15, respectively, serve as what might be called empty verbs, since the semantic content exists in the nouns αἶνος and αἴνεσις. The primary function of δίδωμι and ἀναφέρω in such contexts is to serve as a vehicle for marking case relations (see Domain 90 Case). The same applies to δίδωμι in LUK 17:18 (see 33.357).

αἶνος. Syil 452" (c. B.c. 240, Epidaurus, in dialect) κατὰ τὸν αἷνον τὸν τῶν ᾿Α[Γχαι]ῶν is explained by Dittenberger as a ““decree” of the Achaean Council. He compares 74. 306” (ii/B.c.) μήτε κατὰ ψάφισμα μήτε κατ᾽ alvoy, the former being a decree of the people, the latter of the Senate (Delphi) ; and he cites Hesychius alvos* γνώμη, παροιμία, παράδειγμα, ἔπαινος " kal ἡ χειοοτονία kal ψήφισμα.
