Hom. 1]. 8, 97 down ; to hearken unto, to give ear to; i. e. 1. to give heed to, comply with, admonition; to obey (Lat. obedio i. e. ob-audio) : τινός, 1 Co. xiv. 21, (Deut.i. 43; ix. 23; Sir. iii. 6, etc.). 2. to listen to, assent to, a request; pass. to be heard, to have one’s request granted; a. of persons offering up prayers to God: Heb. vy. 7 (on which see ἀπό, I. 8 ἃ. fin.); Mt.vi.7. b. of the prayers offered up: Lk. i. 13; Acts x. 31, (Ps. iv. 2; Sir. xxxi.
