εἰσκαλέομαι (~ εἰσκαλέω ) [page 188]
This NT ἅπ . εἰρ . ( Act_10:23 ) is found in a petition of B.C. 241, P Petr II. 12(3) .10 οὖ [ν ?] σε εἰσκαλέσασθαι ἡμᾶς καὶ ἐπισκεψάμενον ἃ διὰ τῆς ἐντεύξεως αὐτῶι ἐγκεκλήκαμεν , ἐπαναγκάσαι αὐτὸν τὸ δίκαιον ἡμῖν ὑποσχεῖν , (we ask you), therefore, to summon us and, having inquired into our charges against him, to force him to do us justice (Ed.) : cf. ib. III. 29( h ) .5 ἀξι [ῶ σ ]ε ε̣ἱ̣̓σ κα [λε ]σ̣άμενός [με ] ἐπισκέψασθαι περὶ ὧν κτλ . Like ἀνακαλέομαι , the verb seems to denote summoning by word of mouth, as distinguished from formal citation (παραγγέλλω ) : see P Hamb I. p. 109 n. .5 , and for medical usage cf. Hobart, p. 219.
