to go out of, to depart out of, to leave from within to move out of an enclosed or well-defined two or three-dimensional area In some contexts one may interpret occurrences of ἐκπορεύομαι as being used figuratively or as part of an idiomatic phrase, but ἐκπορεύομαι also implies some type of movement out from a defined or enclosed area. Note, for example, the occurrences of ἐκπορεύομαι in the following contexts: τὸ ἐκπορευόμενον ἐκ τοῦ στόματος τοῦτο κοινοῖ τὸν ἄνθρωπον ‘that which comes from a man’s mouth causes him to be defiled’ MAT 15:11; ἐξεπορεύετο ἦχος περὶ αὐτοῦ εἰς πάντα τόπον τῆς περιχώρου ‘the report about him went out into all parts of the surrounding region’ LUK 4:37; τά τε πνεύματα τὰ πονηρὰ ἐκπορεύεσθαι ‘the evil spirits would go out of them’ ACT 19:12. In a number of languages, however, it may be necessary to translate the meaning of ἐκπορεύομαι in quite different ways. For example, in MAT 15:11 it may be necessary to translate ‘that which a man says causes him to be defiled,’ and in LUK 4:37 it may be necessary to translate ‘more and more people in all parts of the surrounding region heard about Jesus,’ and for ACT 19:12 it may be necessary to say ‘the evil spirits would no longer ride them’ or ‘... control them.’

to live with, to live among (idiom, literally: to go in and to go out) to live or to conduct oneself in relationship to some community or group The semantic focus of these idioms, especially in ACT 1:21 and ACT 9:28, appears to be the manner in which a person conducts himself in relationship to others, but it is possible to imply a certain amount of movement. For example, in ACT 1:21 it is possible to translate ‘during the whole time the Lord Jesus travelled about with us,’ and in ACT 9:28 one could translate ‘Paul stayed with them and went about in Jerusalem.’

ἐκπορεύομαι. BGU IV. τογϑ' (A.D. 39) οὐ καλῶς δὲ ἐπόησας ἐκπορευομένων πολλῶν φίλων μὴ σημᾶναί μοι. The verb is similarly used of the messengers by whom a letter was carried in P and τοῦ (iii/a.p.) ἐπένσαμέν σοι ταύτην τὴν ἐπ͵]ιστολὴν διὰ τῶν φυλάκων ἐκπορευομένων. Cf. also P Leid Wvit.17 (ii/ili aA.p.) ἄνοιγε, ἄνοιγε τὰ δ μέρη τοῦ κόσμου, ὅτι ὁ κύριος τῆς οἰγουμένης ἐκπορεύεται. The act. is found in P Par 37! (ii/n.c.) ἐκπορ[ευὐ]όντων δὲ τῶν φυλακιτῶν.
