ἐντροπή [page 219] We are unable to illustrate the meaning of shame which this word has in its two NT occurrences ( 1Co_6:5 ; 1Co_15:34 , cf. Psa. 34:26 [MT Psa_35:26 ], Psa. 43:15 [MT Psa_44:15 ] al. ), and which survives in MGr; but for the derived sense of respect, reverence, cf. OGIS 323 .7 (B.C. 159 38) πολὺ δὲ τῶν καθ᾽ ἑαυτὸν συνέσει καὶ παιδείαι προάγων [παρὰ μὲ ]ν τοῖς ἄλλοις ἐντροπῆς καὶ δόξης δικαίως ἐτύγχαμεν , and the late magical papyrus P Lond 46 .17 (iv/A.D.)
