to ill-treat, to ill-treat and look down upon to ill-treat someone with contempt Because of the complex nature of the meaning of ἐξουδενέω, it is often possible to translate the term with a semantic doublet, for example, ‘to look down upon and to ill-treat.’ This double meaning can be readily derived from the literal rendering ‘to regard as nothing.’
