to take notice of, to consider, to pay attention to, to concern oneself with to take special notice of something, with the implication of concerning oneself Though the terms ἐπιβλέπω, ἐπεῖδον (ἐφοράω), and ὁράω suggest as a result of their central meanings some measure of visual perception, what is involved in these specific contexts is much more than visual perception. The focus is actually upon intellectual activity and concern.

1 In a number of contexts, ἐπιβλέπω involves not only sight but a considerable focus upon an accompanying mental activity, so that one may classify ἐπιβλέπω not only as meaning sight but as indicating paying attention to or even concerning oneself with (see 30.45).
