audience hall, auditorium a relatively large building normally used for legal hearings, though possibly also employed for more general purposes In a number of languages ἀκροατήριον may be rendered as ‘a large hall’ or ‘a place where many people could gather together’ or ‘a building where many people could sit to listen.’

ἀκροατήριον, -ov, τό, (ἀκροάομαι to be a hearer), place of assemblage for hearing, auditorium; like this Lat. word in Roman Law, axpoar. in Acts xxv. 23 denotes a place set apart for hearing and deciding cases, [yet cf. Mey. ad loc.}. (Several times in Plut. and other later writers.)
