immediately, right away, then a point of time immediately subsequent to a previous point of time (the actual interval of time differs appreciably, depending upon the nature of the events and the manner in which the sequence is interpreted by the writer) In MRK 1:21 εὐθύς probably implies what was done on the immediately following Sabbath. Accordingly, one may translate this expression in MRK 1:21 as ‘and on the next Sabbath he went into the synagogue and taught.’

εὐθύς, instead οἵ εὐθέως, is now read in almost all the occurrences in Mk, and, though not so common as εὐθέως, can also be illustrated from the Kowf. Thus in P Petr II. 13(9)* (B.c. 258-253)—a document already cited under eb0éas—we have εὐθὺς τἀντίγραφα ἔπεμψα : cf. PSI TV. 40379 (iii/B.c.) (early i/a.D.) εὐθύς σε οὐ κρατῶι, “1 at once give in to you” (Edd.), P Ryl II. 234* (ii/a.v.) For the form εὐθύ see P Leid Ci: (B.c. 162) (=I. p. 119) ε]ὐθὺ μέλαινα éyévero—an account of a dream, and the Alexandrian Erotic Fragment P Grenf I. 14 * (ii/B.c.) viv ἀνοργισθῶμεν" εὐθὺ δεῖ καὶ διαλύεσθαι, “let us now cease from anger: yes, for we must quickly be reconciled” (Loeb trans.). The Markan use of εὐθύς is discussed by J. Weiss in ZV7W xi. p. 124 ff. In MGr an unaspirated form εὐτύς is also found.
