to reverence, reverent regard for, reverence to show reverent regard for In εὐλαβέομαι[a] and εὐλάβεια there is also a certain element of awe, which may be interpreted in some instances as implying even fear. The implication of such reverent fear or awe is, of course, obedience, and some scholars prefer to interpret these terms in HEB 11:7 and HEB 5:7 as meaning ‘to obey’ (see 36.13) or ‘obedience.’

P Par 457 (B.C. 153) εὐλαβοῦμαι τὸν ἐνδίκτην τὰ πλῖστα, BGU IV. 1116 (8.6. 13) καὶ μηδὲν τὴν ᾿Αντωνίαν Φιλημάτιο(ν) εὐλαβ(εῖσθαι), and the Christian P Fay 1365 (iv/a.D.) ὅθεν μηδένα εὐλαβούμενοι μᾶλλον ἀπαντήσατε ἀπ᾽ ἑαυτῶν πρὸ τοῦ τις ὑμᾶς ἐνέγκῃ, “τπετείογε heed no one rather than me and return from where you are before some one fetches you” (Edd.).
