to weep loudly, to wail to cry or weep intensely and with wailing In a number of languages the equivalent of ἀλαλάζω[b] is a term or phrase referring to ritual or ceremonial weeping or wailing. This would not necessarily imply lack of sincerity, but it would be typical of what would frequently occur in many societies in the case of the type of presumed death reported in MRK 5:38.
