An early instance of this verb occurs in the interesting, but fragmentary, papyrus containing a royal edict regarding the constitution of one of the Greek cities in Egypt, P Hib I. 28 .7 ( c. B.C. 265), where it is laid down with reference to the incorporation of the demes in the phratries κ̣[αὶ ] γνωρίζηται ὑπὸ τῶν φρατόρων θυέτωσαν , (in order that they may) be recognized by the members of the phratries, let them sacrifice (Edd.). Other examples are P Fay 121 .18 ( c.
