to kill (a figurative extension of meaning of καταστρώννυμι ‘to spread out,’ not occurring in the NT) to cause the death of a number of persons, with the implication of bodies spread out over an area It is also possible to understand this expression in 1CO 10:5 as meaning that the individuals died and that their bodies were strewn over the desert.
