Moulton & Milligan — Vocabulary of the Greek NT
ἄμπελος [page 27]
ἄμπελος is amply vouched for in the papyri, as in BGU IV. 1119 10 , 1123 2 (both time of Augustus), and P Lond 921 8 (late ii/iii A.D.) (= 111. p. 134) ἦσαν ἐν ἀμπέλῳ , planted with vines. In P Petr I. 29 4 (iii/B.C.) πεφύτευται δὲ καὶ ἡ ἄμπελος πᾶσα , ἄ . is used in a collective sense : cf. P Flor I. 50 2 (A.D. 268) ἐξ ἴσου τῆ [ς ἀμπέ ]λου μεριζομένης . This use of ἄμπελος (so MGr ἀμπέλι ) which makes it equivalent to ἀμπελών , occurs also in the Median parchments, P SaΏd Khan (B.C. 88 and 22), deeds concerning the transfer of a vineyard, which is never called ἀμπελών in the documents. We may probably apply this use in Rev_14:18-19 , and perhaps in Didache 9:2.
Liddell-Scott — Intermediate Greek Lexicon
