This word, which in the NT is confined to Mar_5:13 and parallels, is found in an account of rushes used in irrigation works, P Petr III. 39 ii. 8 , where mention is made of those employed εἰς τοὺς κρημνούς , for the steep banks or edges of the trench. See also the epitaph on one who had hurled himself from the cliffs, Kaibel , 225 .1 f.
