Λάζαρος is a contracted form of Ἐλεάζαρος : see s.v. Ἐλεάζαρ , and cf. Wetstein ad Luk_16:20 . The name survives in MGr : Thumb ( Handbook , pp. 239 41) gives a Popular Tale of a cobbler called Lazarus ὁ κὺρ Λάζαρος κ᾽ οἱ δράκοι .
