This feminine form of μαθητής , which in the NT is found only in Act_9:36 , is applied to Mary Magdalene in Ev. Petr. 11, where Swete ad l. notes that in Coptic Gnostic literature ( Pistis Sophia, Second Book of jeϋ ), the μαθήτριαι correspond to the μαθηταί = ἀπόστολοι , and are headed by Mary Magdalene (Schmidt, Gnostische Schriften, p. 452).
