μηλωτή, μηλωτης, ἡ (from μῆλον sheep, also a goat; as καμηλωτη (`camlet') from κάμηλος (cf. Lob. Paralip., p. 332)), a sheepskin: Heb_11:37, and thence in Clement of Rome, 1 Cor. 17, 1 [ET]. For ΰΗγΖΜψΖϊ an outer robe, mantle, the Sept. in 1Ki_19:13; 1Ki_19:19; 2Ki_2:8; 2Ki_2:13 f, doubtless because these mantles were made of skins; hence, more closely ωΕ�ςΘψ ΰΗγΖΜψΖϊ, a mantle of hair, Zec_13:4 (where the Sept. δέρρις τριχινη). In the Byzantine writings (Apoll. Dysk. 191, 9) μηλοτη denotes a monk's garment.

For this NT ἅπ . εἰρ . ( Heb_11:37 ) = sheepskin, cf. the list of imposts levied at Palmyra, OGIS 629 .32 (A.D. 137) πορφύρας μηλωτῆ [ς ] ἑκά [στου δέρμα ]τος εἰσκομισθέν [τος πράξει ἀσσάρια η̄ . The word occurs quinquies in the LXX always with reference to Elijah.
