hardly able to speak, having difficulty in speaking pertaining to being almost mute In translating μογιλάλος it may be necessary in some instances to use a descriptive phrase, for example, ‘when he spoke, people could hardly understand’ or ‘he spoke in such a way that people had difficulty in understanding.’
1 MRK 7:32 Some have interpreted μογιλάλος in MRK 7:32 as meaning ‘not able to speak,’ but the context (especially MRK 7:35) seems to confirm the meaning of ‘to speak with difficulty’ or ‘to be scarcely able to speak.’

μογιλάλος. The earliest citation we can give for this NT ar. εἰρ. (Mk γ83), except perhaps LXX Isai 358, is from a ii/a.p. copy of a probably Ptolemaic astrological calendar, P Oxy ΠῚ. 465728 οὐὗτος ὁ θεὸς ποιεῖ γῆρας πολὺ... . οὗτος μὴ ἔχοντα ὀφθαλμούς, οὗτος ὅμοια κτήνι, οὗτος μογιλάλα, οὗτος κωφά, οὗτος νωδά, ““1Π15 deity causes long old age, and persons with no eyes and like a beast and dumb and deaf and toothless’”’ (Edd.): cf. Vett. Val. p. 7312 γίνονται δὲ With the variant μογγιλάλος in Mk ἐς. (WLNA 28 33 αἰ) cf. the word poyyds in P Lond 653} (early iv/a.D.) (= III.
