παρα-καθίζω: 1 aor. ptep. fem. παρακαθίσασα, to make lo sit down beside [(mapa, IV. 1)]; to set beside, place near ; intrans. to sit down beside: παρά τι, Lk. χ. 89 RG L [but L mrg. πρός] (Sept. Job ii. 13; Plut. Marius 17; Cleom. 37; in this sense the mid. is more com. in the Grk. writ.).

παρακαθέζομαι, “sit beside,” occurs in the NT only in Lk τοϑϑ. there may have suggested the words put into the mouths of the women at the tomb of Jesus in Ev. Petr. 11 τίς δὲ - ἵνα εἰσελθοῦσαι Its use ἀποκυλίσει ἡμῖν καὶ τὸν λίθον. παρακαθεσθῶμεν αὐτῷ καὶ ποιήσωμεν τὰ ὀφειλόμενα ; For the corresponding verb παρακαθιζάνω cf. Sy//3 71785 (B.C. 100-99) ταῖς σχολαῖς παρακαθιζάνων, and for παρακάOnpat see PSI IV. 402?° (iii/B.c.).
