πειθός (WH πίθος; see Iota), πειθη, πειθον, (from πείθω, like φειδος from φείδομαι (cf. Winers Grammar, 96 (91))), persuasive: ἐν πειθοῖς λόγοις, 1Co_2:4 (cf. Buttmann, 73). Not found elsewhere (Winer's Grammar, 24). The Greeks say πιθανός; as πιθανοι λόγοι, Josephus, Antiquities 8, 9, and often in Greek authors See Passow, under the word, πιθανός, 1 e.; (Liddell and Scott, ibid. I. 2; WH's Appendix, p. 153).

persuasive. For the spelling of this adj. (WH πιθός ), which hitherto has not been found elsewhere than in 1Co_2:4 , cf. Moulton Gr. ii. p. 78, where the word is treated as a new adj. straight from the verb-stem. See also Winer-Schmiedel, p. 135 n. .20 , and Field Notes , p. 167.
For the subst., which is read in certain inferior authorities in 1Co_2:4 , see P Oxy III. 474 .37 (A.D. 184?) ἀβουλίᾳ μᾶλλον ἢ πειθοῖ τῶν παρηγγελμένων χρωμένοις , in defiance rather than obedience to the proclamations (Edd.) : cf. P Arnh II. 31 .11 (B.C. 112) πειθανάγκης προσαχθείσης περὶ τοῦ καθήκοντος προστίμου , forcible persuasion being employed with regard to the proper fine (Edd.).
