(fr. περί, beyond, III. 2), to set one’s self in thought beyond (exalt one’s self in thought above) a pers. or thing; to contemn, despise: τινός (cf. Kiihner § 419, 1b. vol. ii. p. 325), Tit. ii. 15 (4 Mace. vi. 9; vii. 16; xiv. 1; Plut., al. ; τοῦ ζῆν, Plat. Ax. p.372; Aeschin. dial. Socr. 3, 22).
