παρεδρεύω, lit. ‘“have my seat beside.” For the religious connotation of the verb in its only NT occurrence 1 Cor 91%, we may cite Syll 552 (=% 695)?" (ii/B.c.) γινέσθω δὲ Kal γυναικῶν ἔξοδος εἰς τὸ ἱερὸν Kal παρεδρευέτωσαν ἐν τῶι ἱερῶι τὴν ἐπιβάλλουσαν τιμὴν καὶ παρεδρείαν ποιούμεναι τῆς θεοῦ : cf. τό. 521 (= 3717)35 (B.c. 100-99) where the ephebi at Athens are commended because waprSpeveay . . . Tats ἐκκλησίαις ἁπά]σαις ἐν SrAois—they ‘‘attended” the meetings in arms, although they were not allowed yet to speak or vote. The Lat. adsideo is a close equivalent.
