to strike against, to burst against to strike suddenly and with force It is also possible to understand προσρήγνυμι in LUK 6:48 as meaning ‘to overflow the stream bed,’ but in view of the occurrence of τῇ οἰκίᾳ ἐκείνῃ, the meaning of ‘strike against’ seems more justified.

προσρήγνυμι one of many exx. of this writer’s preference for compounds of πορεύομαι : indeed, except in 9%°, he does not use the simple verb at all. As Mark’s Greek culture was manifestly small, Harnack’s thesis in his ‘‘ Sayings of Jesus” as to the connexion between culture and compound verbs cannot pass unchallenged: see further Κα. VII. vii. p. 411 f.
